Took a quick trip to Best Buy. There is DEFINITELY a space open for it on the shelf, complete with price tag. They got a lot of stock in the back today that I saw them sorting through, though I didn't see the box itself. Nonetheless, it could definitely be there. We asked a guy and he said they probably couldn't put it out until tomorrow, but he'd never even heard of the game before, so I don't entirely trust what he says. My roommate is going to try and put an online order in for store pickup and then go before they close and see if they'll give it to him, because the website says its in stock.
We'll see what happens....either way, he'll get it tomorrow.

I was afraid wether or not Best Buy would be carrying it in a decent quantity (See: More than, I don't know, 2 per store or something) so I ended up ordering it from Gamestop with 1-Day shipping.
Hopefully I don't see it within the next day, crack, buy it, then cry as I deal with trying to get my credit back from Gamestop. Guitar Hero is soooooo freaking good

Ha ha ha I guess so. I liked Guitar Freaks even though I enjoyed it mainly because it was a novelty at the time. This game seems to be a greatly expanded version of the same idea that Konami had when they made GF. At the very least the guitar has been given an insane level of detail and thanks to BuddyC's impressions we know that the game seems to have been given the same treatment, CAN'T WAIT.bobbyconover said:

That said, my roommate (discohiro) DID manage to pick it up tonight. Apparently the guy we asked really DIDN'T know what was going on. Anyway, we got it and his playing it right now. He's playing Take Me Out and, though I was a little skeptical after Iron Man (which was slow and drawn out, of course) , it really seems to be a good successor to GuitarFreaks.

I got it at Best Buy tonight. Lots of little things annoy me about it. Like how the controller only works in the 1p slot. No practice mode. Having to re-input my initials whenever I make the hi-score chart. Star Power (or whatever it's called) mode doesn't always seem to activate when I hold the guitar vertically. Not that it matters cuz it seems kinda dumb and I'd rather just play without it or the wammy bar.
But none of that is all that bad. Biggest problem I have is the songs are too long. The covers are for the most part really, really well done, but some songs would really benefit from having chunks cut out of them. Lots of repetitive bits, lots of dead time. Did "Frankenstein" really need that drum solo, and couldn't they cut the opening of "Iron Man" down a bit rather than chopping off the guitar solo at the end?? I'm sure a lot of folks are going to dig the length, but a lot of times I found myself bored 2/3 of the way through and wanting the songs to just hurry up and end.
I also dislike the viewpoint. I mean, it's not terrible, but it's not ideal, either.
Game's still fun despite all my bitching, but I'm not as blown away as everyone else seems to be.
And I haven't played Guitar Freaks, but it seems quite a bit easier than other Bemani games. I'd get wiped out within seconds on the hardest difficulty in those, but in GH I jumped straight into Hard and Expert and was passing a lot of songs without much effort. Some would really kick my ass, and I'll most likely never pass them, but they seemed doable with a bit of practice, while simply watching the notes fly by in the Bemani stuff makes my brain melt.

So, after reading these reports I decided to head out after work (7am), drive to Lexington, and pick up the game. Sure, I'd have to wait several hours before the store opened, and I'd miss out on some sleep, but oh well, I'd have the game.
At 7am I left work and drove to Lexington. I decided to check other stores (just in case) while I waited for Best Buy to open. After nearly 5 hours wasted, 1 Best Buy, 1 EB, 2 Gamestops, 2 Targets, 1 Meijer, and 1 Wal-Mart, I am back home and completely without Guitar Hero and relatively frustrated. No, there wasn't a "space on the shelf" cleared for the game. Hell, I even had them do a lookup in the computer and verified the results myself. The thing simply wasn't there.
In the end, it appears that these stories are as hit-or-miss and "your mileage may vary" as a damn Target clearance sale. For the record, neither Target location had even a single game, for any platform, on clearance.

This Best Buy thing sucks, it says the store has it but when I call they don't even have it in the system. Checked for "Guitar" and even "Red Octane."
Which is why I cancelled my order this morning and swung by Best Buy on the way in to the office.
I don't think I've seen a retail game have this huge of packaging since Steel Battalion. IT'S HUUUUGE~

Damn Best Buy computers, I had to go through a bit of a hassle with it in order to get the game. I decided to swing by the store that I called earlier, the one the website listed as having it and the employee telling me they didn't have any in store. When I got there I had to show the employee myself on their PC that the site said they carried the game and provide him the model number. For some reason searching it by its name doesn't work however the model number worked like a charm. After the employee found out they had twelve in stock he went to the back and grabbed the game himself. I thanked him of course and went to the checkout.
