I forgot it even existed. Took me a moment to even remember what it was reading the name. No socket there with that price tag

hopefully it'll mean that they might move on to a more affordable version or a gen 2... if not it'll be their phasing out of the vr market for a while.

Apple gon Apple.
? Their track record is pretty incredible regarding moving niche/undercooked products into mainstream success. iPhone, Apple Watch, Airpods, iPads, all major success that moved their respective categories into massive mainstream successes and high adoption levels. This one is a failure for sure, but VR is still not ready for the mainstream, and wont be until the big goggles go away.

Is it available outside of US now? I remember how some youtubers/influencers from Europe flied to the States when it launched to get their copies lol.

I am going to guess because a Pro 2 is under development and they want to finish the existing stock. will be impossible to sell Pro 1 when 2 is... I am going to guess better and most likely cheaper

Cheaper yes, and better in some ways, but likely compromises as well. Their next MR headset if they make one probably won’t be branded “Pro.”

Wait so the apple influencers acting like tools didn't sell an extremely over priced product to the mass market?

Apple really thought they could do VR without having to make VR apps.
This is basically it right? The tech is cool, but it’s too expensive with no killer apps?

I’d like to try it out but FFS, unless work is buying it for me, 3k is more than my mortgage payment. I dump that into my PC every 5 years or so, but this kind of gadget…feels like an extravagance I can’t justify

It is the best VR and MR headset, hands down.

But for most people it is simply to expensive.

Yes, I spent £2,000 on my Fold 6, but I use it for hours every day, can use it anywhere, and it is also a work tool as well as a social and entertainment one. I'll also get a good amount for it if I choose to upgrade next year.

None of that can be said about the Vision Pro.

There was never a killer feature shown that would make it insanely obvious why you'd want one of these.

The best use case I saw was creating an in home productivity setup with virtual monitors...and I can't really say the idea of being strapped in for 8 hours at a time is something I'd be over the moon to do.

You also can't ACTUALLY work in the modern era with this thing purely because video conferencing is the default now. It wouldn't at all be considered professional to dial into meetings looking like a budget scuba diver and expect people to take you seriously.

I'm sick of companies leaning so heavily into VR, which will be niche for quite a long ass time. The true nextgen tech will be fully AR, with contextual and "in world" overlays containing relevant information. And they need to look like glasses that anyone would wear, like the Rayban Meta collab.

VR is a toy.

i want one but that price point is not it and never will be it
I got some for my business, and while they are amazing from a screen standpoint, the "wowness" wears off in 5 minutes and your left with a very undercooked, understupported product that will sit collecting dust. I use it now just for doing 3D video testing for clients that want 3D productions done (few and far between, but one job paid for all the headsets, so not fretting over it)

Call me when VR is the size and weight of spectacles or contact lens size. Then you have my interest.
I said this in a previous thread and was told by VR fanatics that It will never happen, physically impossible, and I'm an idiot for thinking that's the barrier. 3D fan boys are weird and delusional and have no understanding of normal humans.

I understand what they were trying to get into, but I personally didn't know anyone that had this. It just looked like a another novelty. Another push to get VR into the majority of modern homes. I don't want to say there isn't a market or demographic that would buy this, but most people I know don't care or were never going to buy this. And for someone like me who is aware of VR. I'm sorry but your not going to have me strap a computer to my head all day and call it normal. That is goofy. Everyone should step away from their phones and computers. The real world is beautiful to look at without a notification popping up to ruin your day.
