Are Frequency and Amplitude any good?

(I just went to a Q-bert show a couple of weeks ago, actually!)

So did I - was he touring with DJ Swamp, DJ Flare, and Grand Wizard Theodore (the inventor of the scratch!) at the show you went to?

Close! Ours (Seattle) had DJ Jazzy Jeff as well. :D

DJ A-Trak was at our show (LA), as was DJ Disk...woulda been cool to see Jazzy Jeff tho :)

Z-Trip was there also but he was just chilling - he didn't bring any records :(

HAvent played Amplitude but Frequency is pretty awesome, it does get quite hard later on (or i am just weaksauce :/ )

These sound like good reasons for playing Amplitude first, though.

I actually like Amplitude a lot more because the screen layout in Frequency hurts my head. I don't know why but that tunnel stuff confuses me. Probably because I'm old. The flat layout in Amplitude is just a lot easier to look at so I can plan ahead. Plus Amplitude is a lot brighter. Also I like 'Cool Baby' probably a lot more than I should.

Anyway, they both kick ass and are worth full price even now.

Well, the thing about Amplitude being more forgiving is that I can see it being VERY hard to play Amplitude first, and then go to Frequency.

And as far as the tunnel/flat thing goes, I personally really preferred the tunnel approach of Frequency. If you end up finishing a section on one side of the track in Amplitude and you need to get to the other side to continue a combo, you're pretty much out of luck unless you've got a slo-mo/autocatcher/freestyler. There's really no way you can get over that far and start playing the section unless the notes start a few beats into the measure. Not only that, but in Frequency, even if you needed to get to the other side of the tunnel in a hurry, you could at least see the notes that you would need to play. Since the far tracks are off the screen in Amplitude, you don't even have the option to read ahead and try for it. Of course, the stupid combo arrows that block 1/3 of the track until you're right on top if don't help matters much, either.

Another thing that bugged me about Amplitude is that in some of the later levels, there's so much going on that the framerate actually starts to dip, which can really screw you up when you're trying to keep a combo going.

Played em both to death... I for one like Amplitude way more than Frequency though, the graphics are far more awesome and the gameplay is more balanced and thought out imho.
