My brother who isn't into gaming much wants to try a war game but since he's not so good, he wants to play co-op. It has to be on the Cube though but if there's no such thing on the Cube, the PS2 is the second option but more of a last resort deal (he likes the cube controller cause it's comfy and has less buttons so it's less confusing for him).

What time of war game do you mean? The Conflict: Desert Storm games are on the cube, and I believe they have co-op features.
Conflict: Desert Storm and Conflict: Desert Storm II (both have 4-player co-op). Both very underrated in my opinion (across all platforms). DSII is better than DSI -- better sound, better level design, and it's co-op from the start. DSI's co-op starts halfway through the first mission, and the 4 player co-op starts on the second mission.
Also, the level design is pretty open -- so you can generally choose to be stealthy, systematic, or guns 'a blazin'.
Slight warning: there are a lot of controls to learn. It'll take you one, possibly two missions to grasp the controls (an hour or so maybe?). But once you get the controls, you'll have a blast.

i have to second or third all the talk about conflict desert storm (I and II). those games were truly the greatest co-op experience of my life. i have a good friend who i love to play co-op with and we have been through a lot of games on all three platforms looking for a good time, and CDS is by far the most fun i've had. one of the coolest things about the game(s) is that you don't have to stick together, you can split up and follow different routes, plus each player gets to control two characters! you may experience some conflict when playing (esp. if your brother is the sort who needs minimal confusing buttons) but it'll still be tons of fun.
