Jesus I hate Norton Antivirus!!

Buggy as hell under XP since I put it on, but it caught a virus or two now and again so I left it. Then it starts causing all sorts of problems for me so I uninstall everything. So far so good....

NOT!

So after everything is said and done, I have this folder on my system...

Program Files/Common Files/Symantec Shared

Can I delete it? Nope!

ALL Norton/Symantec info is GONE from registry, ALL other files are GONE. This folder is all that remains. Who cares right?

Well if I use other virus scanners, it finds this folder to contain viruses! (Virus Defs are in it) so it is a pain in the ass...

<takes a breath>

So, after trying everything I could think of, including but not limited to manually scowering the registry, booting up in DOS mode to try to delete the files, and re-installing and uninstalling Norton, I give up.

I also find no reference to this problem on the web except on a "web Experts" site that wants me to pay $30 to see a "possible" solution.

Help!

What is protecting that directory from being deleted????

This is probably gonig to sound silly, but have you tried right-clicking the folder, going to properties, and unchecking Read-only?

Run your anti-adware programs, too. Sometimes you can download really silly anti-virus programs, or anti-trojan programs that'll remove almost anything those big shits will.

Not silly at all, but tried it. It will not let me make ANY changes to these files at all. I think they load into memory on boot because even if I stop all proccesses to just the bare minimum..I STILL can't touch this folder.

Somewhere it is in memory or something, but I can't figure it out!

Did that too...it won't touch them either.

ever try setting the attribute in DOS?

Boot from a boot CD or something (I can't seem to change out of my A: drive if I boot from a floppy), so you're in pure DOS. Try setting the attribute to -r there.

There's probably a registry entry somewhere that wont let you delete it, that or a file is in that folder that is hidden and still in use.
