Argh, (hopefully) easy question regarding google.com

I've been wondering this for a while, but have finally gotten irritated enough to ask...

Is there any way to stop Google from hijacking the keyboard cursor when you go to their site? See, every time I open up a new Firefox window with the intent of going to a specific web site, I usually get about halfway into the url before Google grabs my keyboard cursor (I've got Google set as my homepage) and moves it to the search box on their page, making the other half of the URL I was typing end up down there.

You'd think there'd be some browser setting that kept web pages from stealing the cursor's focus, but I haven't found one yet... Is there anything to be done?

I'm pretty sure that's the way with all forms, whether it be google, Hotmail or a Gaming-Age "reply" box. I imagine there might be some sort of Firefox tweak to change it though...

I believe this is done in Javascript. If you look at the google.com source, you'll see a function sf() used at page load...which sets the focus to the text box. You might try disabling Javascript to see if you still have the problem.
