During Taipei Game Show 2023, Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon producer Yasutaka Ogura answered a few questions about the upcoming title.
Ogura-san mentioned that FromSoftware intended to leave a few years gap between this new title and the series’ last entry. Still, he and FromSoftware CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki had always wanted to return to the series. Miyazaki-san acted as the initial game director on the game, where he helped provide a foundation for the team but not the current game director on the project.
Ogura-san adds that Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is meant to give players freedom during gameplay. The game will retain control and customization at the series’ core. Once players can get their hands on the game, they’ll see the changing parts and action elements and how they work together with the customization elements.
The most significant difference between this new entry and the previous entry is the experience that the team will bring from working on recent games such as Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and Dark Souls.
There is no story connection between this entry and Armored Core V, a choice made so players can jump right into this entry. As for new players, the developer plans to release more information about accessibility in the coming days. That said, they have come to understand that customization and mech creation might seem confusing to new players, so they have made the assembly and customization more intuitive and logical this time.
As for difficulty, Ogura-san confirms the game will offer a “stiff challenge” to players, but this title is different than others. The most distinctive feature of the series is combining parts to customize mechs. So, to overcome difficulties in the game, players will need to understand how to customize their mechs to suit missions. Further, the game will reward players for getting the most out of the action system to provide a sense of achievement. Finally, he touched on the fact that the game will also feature boss battles that require a varied approach to overcome.
Online elements will be available, but the team has put most of its resources into the action, and the story mode will be single-player only. Still, there will be an online arena, with more details soon.
Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon players move through massive 3D environments with mech maneuverability. Again, FromSoftware brings their crafted game design, which features challenging battles and “fulfilling progression.” Further,” Players will recognize the sense of satisfaction and achievement when they overcome a difficult situation and relish the momentary victory, and perhaps a boost to their standing, before encountering the next challenge.
Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon, in development for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam in 2023.
