If the public face of gamers is represented by video game awards shows, then it's no wonder much of the non-gaming world still thinks we're horny, pimply, virginal dorks living in our moms' basements. Witness the G-Phoria game awards, which were held last weekend in Los Angeles and broadcast Friday on specialty channel G4techTV. Hosted by "celebrity" couple Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro, the show featured not one but two lame and dated references to Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction (one involving a newly svelte Anna Nicole Smith popping out all over) jammed in among all the "hilarious" moments and "edgy" presentations and "musical" "performances."

And you thought the Spike TV game awards show was bad. We'll take David Spade over Dave Navarro yanking on his nipple piercings any day.

On the plus side, Edmonton-based BioWare Corp.'s Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic won the game-of-the-year award, along with best adaptation, best RPG and the EB Gamers' Choice. So, good with the bad.

they were rerunning it this morning. i couldn't tolerate watching it for more than a couple minutes. but i got to watch matt cassamasassamasama struggle to say something nice about ninja gaiden; you could actually sort of see him holding back an inchoate rant about all the ways in which it isn't a nintendo game. also morgan webb looked pretty good, in a regular girl kind of way. cue admonishments from chronic masturbators who've pulled their wilted puds to the VERY BEST, and will by no means settle. so it wasn't totally without merit, the g4 show.

you could always tell what game was gonna win, cause every award i saw, the game that won had "EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE" for it's upcoming sequel.

Sorry, it was a poorly thought out reference to something that happened here a while ago where an uncommon word was used and people were like "omg what crack are you on that's not a word!" Unfortunately since I can't remember the word in question, the joke sucks.

I don't think anything can be worse than Spiketv...announcing game of the year award in the first minute of the show? lol. At least the G-Phoria winners weren't as bad, but it's still just a fanboy award show since the winners are derived from an online poll

It wasn't as bad as SpikeTV's show, but they definitely are leaning in that direction. I am glad someone in the press said something about it. I would prefer a serious show myself. I have sent my feedback to G4 on the award show, posted on their boards as well.
