Intro blurb from the site!

Arvoch Alliance is a mission based single player and multiplayer 3D space combat simulation. You can take on the single player campaign, launch into instant action missions, join other players in Coop or PvP objectives (supporting up to 24 players), or even design your own missions and campaigns. The single player campaign will take you through the battles and events that eventually lead up to the liberation of the Evochron quadrant. You are in command as the story develops through 30 missions of diverse objectives spanning a variety of locations ranging from dense sensor restricting nebula clouds to hurricane force gas giant planet atmospheres.

Arvoch is more mission based than the Evochron series. The previous and only other Arvoch game came out in 2006.. and wasn't that great really, but the series has grown A LOT since with three Evochron game releases (Evochron Renegades, Evochron Legends and Evochron Mercenary) and constant improvement. The Starwraith3d guy is incredible at cranking out patches and adding/changing stuff based on feedback.

btw he is also working on an android/ios game. http://www.starwraith.com/newsletter/newsletter.htm

"I've also been learning how to write games on the Android and iPhone/iPad and one of my other projects may be available in the coming months for those platforms. While not a first person space combat game, it will involve fleet-based capital ship space combat in real time. I plan to post additional details about this game in the coming months as things progress, so watch the forum for more details."

Will buy when I can, even if I've yet to manage to play Mercenary I can tell the quality level of both is superb---and the ride that is the changelogs to Mercenary has been most impressive.

No telling what kind of crazy stuff people will make with the mission editor, especially if some new folk from other spacey games give it a whirl.

You'd think that after I've spent so much time complaining about the lack of space combat sims, someone would've pointed me in the direction of this one. I had no idea it existed until now, but I'll give it a shot for sure.

Certainly looks inspired by Freespace, especially with the capital ship beam combat and the explosion shockwaves.

this game just came out today. but yeah, the starwraith3d space games have been going for a while http://www.spacecombat.org

Great work, Joe! And even more intriguing is that iOS game he's alluded to. I could very well do with a bit of deep and tactical fleet management on the go.

How does it compare in complexity to the X series? I'm guessing it's apples to oranges. I've never played an Evochron game before, so I can't compare to those, although it's probably a much better comparison.

I take it you still can't pilot capital ships? I love the Evochron games, but I was always disheartened that you could only pilot fighters.
