NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

This highly anticipated sequel features a new faction, larger battles, advanced units, and a new campaign to lead humanity against hostile AI takeover.

In Ashes of the Singularity II, a massive real-time strategy game, command vast armies fighting for control of entire worlds. Control the forces of Earth, the mechanical AI Substrate, or the enigmatic Post-Human Coalition as you battle across the solar system in single player, cooperative multiplayer, or competitive multiplayer. After the technological singularity, only one form of life will survive.

Well I have the first game (was bundled with a GPU) but never really played it although I really like RTS games. But for me this was never more than a benchmark.
Did anybody really play the first game?

I might give it another try totally forgot that this was a game.

The first one was solid. It's crazy that really niche stuff like Ashes of the Singularity and Sins of a Solar Empire get sequels. But Command & Conquer doesn't get jack shit.

Yeah, c&c 4 still pretty much killed the franchise.
I really can't get the logic from those decisions they (at EA) made. "We have a big franchise, how can we deliver something that doesn't have anything to do with the previous games and call it progress" ...
I really hope tempest rising made enough $ to get a sequel.

For this one, I really need more time to give the first part another chance.

Ashes of the Singularity 1 is more in the family of Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander style of RTS. Lots of units, big-ass maps and a focus on macro. But I found the first one to be solid but underwhelming. But it does some things better than Supreme Commander (IMHO): It has no command unit and it flows faster. Both share the same core philosophy of macro-focused economy and gameplay. But Supreme Commander has less dynamic front lines, it's a bit more like WW1 in that sense. Ashes forces more dynamic frontline by binding resources to node points on the map you need to fight over. Like Company of Heroes or Dawn of War 1. I do like Supreme Commander 1's approach more because the "let's just fucking throw material at each other" fits the economy gameplay and the giving orders in the tactical zoom (basically zoomed-out very far so that you see all the big-ass map and your units are represented as abstract symbols) way of controlling. Ashes has that as well and it's neat but I remember having to do a bit more micro around the node points, which requires you to zoom in more often. But it's been years since I have played both.

Yeah that is something I fail to get my head around. After the two great remasters I thought they would go ahead and remaster Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and 3 as well as Generals.

I want those games at 60fps. 30 just doesn't feel good.

I am still on hopium that they'll gonna do it at some point. I mean, Petroglyph themselves said years ago that they want to do it but it's on EA to greenlight the whole thing. This year, they've released all the source code of the old C&C games on Github, except for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2. Rumor is that they've lost the source code to these 2 games. But it has never been officially confirmed. My cope is that they've not released the source code for Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun because they want to remaster/remake them and make money first.
