Asphalt GT vs. Ridge Racer DS

Saying both are shit is harsh and not precicely the case, but let's put it this way:

Use your money to get Zoo Keeper, Chokkan Hitofude and Sawaru Made in Wario. They're all great and very import friendly.

Zoo Keeper's supposed to be out this month in the US.

get Asphalt.

What the heel is zoopkeeper? What type of racing is that? :lol
It's a race against time to have as high a score as possible by capturing animals!
I'd post my image of my high score (no one can beat it!) but I'm too lazy to look for it right now. Maybe later!

Which is more fun? Which gave you the better value per dollar?

have not played Asphalt GT, but I really like Ridge Racer per my other thread. Contrary to popular beliefe the the touch control with the thumb pad works great here is a video of me doing a 360 if you didn't see it before. I have gotten WAAAAY better at controlling it now, I dont hit the walls hardly at all now.

RR DS 360 video :)

Only at system launches do we have these kinds of freaky discussions.

During a console's adult life, RRDS and Asphalt GT wouldn't even merit a byline in an olimario post.

Thanks for the impressions. I'm definitely going with Ridge Racers for PSP now.

Ridge Racer DS is just fine if you don't mind the rediculous AI in later stages and the questionable hit detection. Sometimes your car will just fly backwards and come to a halt when you hit another racer from behind. Others times a racer will hit you from behind and the same strange glitch will occur. These mostly happen in the last four races on the extra cup when you'll be traveling at high speeds, but I wish NST really delayed this game for bug cleaning. And fuck the touch screen controls. They made 'X' go and 'B' brake for a strange and difficult method of powersliding. Stick with the D-pad, which is no replacement for the N64's analog, but still passable.

After watching that RR video the game looks pretty decent. Although I am not so sure you are as good with those controls as you say you are. :)

I am much better now. That video was from like my second time playing. Went through four stages last night around 2 in the morning playing with the thujmb strap and got 1st each time!

Duh, they are launch titles, launch titles are never the GREATEST ever! The PSP launch titles are turning out to be the same. We'll see though!

Edit: I want to say arguably the same, with load times and some slight graphical issues, seemingly.

Well, although it doesn't need to be said again...

...once more for emphasis. RRDS is atrocious, and you'd all do yourself very well to ignore Jr. in this regard :D

Eh, what's that? I can't seem to get this annoying fly to go away.

Wow, that Ridge Racer video reminded me of this.

Now I see why people love Ridge Racer, you can be an absolute shit driver (spinning around in circles on the track and still inevitably being pulled forward on the track by the invisible guiding hand of the guardian of video game baby poo-poo at Namco, WTF?!) and still finish a race. :X

I'll stick to the electric cars. At least there's some skill in keeping the tracks corrosion free. :P

You didn't read my recent impressions did you?

Yes. I did. Basically it was a "Ridge Racer DS is fine if you don't mind one billion trillion flaws in your gaming experience." :P

Woah, the game doesn't look all that bad in motion. Some nice reflections on the car there.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. Obvious large control issues though (360 spins? Is it supposed to do that?). With some actually effort this could have been a strong launch window title. But meh, what do you expect with RR PSP in development as well?

Nintendo fans got the shity end of the stick in this Namco deal, just face the music and buy a PSP! The DS will still have some great things in the future, but I'm not paying for poopoo when I can get something awesome and worth playing.

/back to Feel the Magic

I am up in the air about either. Both are pretty crappy. It just depends how much I hate myself that determines which I want to play. I would probably lean towards RidgeRacer.

ThanX man, ignore all the haters like Amir0x, he wants games that aren't even possible on the DS! Anyway, like I said befoe I'll post some more movies later when I have time, I'm much better now, or I was last night! Fun game if you arent a graphics whore and you aren't looking for a HUGE console perfect game, it is just like the original Ridge Racer on the PS one witha few extra tidbits added. I guess you can get some Nintendo music later on which is cool enough!

Boy, Jr., your unfounded opinions are even more hilarious when they're directed at a member of the forum.

So...what you're suggesting is that DS is incapable of good collission detection, is incapable of decent touch screen control/support, is incapable of enhancing the sense of speed, is incapable of not having horrific art direction... the list can go on and on. THAT's what I want on DS. A good racer. And guess what? A good racer IS possible with the DS.

I guess I have more faith in DS than you.

Im questioning you because the N64 version wasn't a game you could beat in weekend, hard and frustrating in the later circuits.

How you can find a game "atrocious" and "beat it". Valid quesion i think.

No more ports please. Let's see an original racer built from the ground up.

Beetle Adventure Racing is way better than 99% of the shit EA puts out these days. UNDERGROUND GANGSTA TITTY RACER EXTREME 2005 4 LIFE YO.

1. VW bug love
2. Female breast hate

Coming from a gay male, nothing about this comment surprises me in the very least.

Because, as I said, I don't formulate final opinions about a game until I fully experience it. I think that's a fair way to do things, non? So I played Ridge Racer DS (and 64, for that matter) and beat them, and they are both... once again... atrocious.

I wish more people did this.

You don't even earn a right to call a game bad until you have beaten it

I think there are one or two exceptions to that rule (Fantastic Four PSX, Superman 64), but yup that's generally my philosophy.

Oh I could not read Superman 64 because of the green krytonite FOG

I want my 120 respect points back! Without those points I won't be able to purchase a new skill from my status screen.

*Edit: Woot! 150 w/ mini-games. I'm so going to purchase a Fire upgrade.

By half of your statements here alone you have proven that you ahven't even played the game. Go play it, then come back and bitch about it. The game has plenty of speed and the collision detection, although a little goofy is fine for a handheld game. Oh, since the PSP and Ridge Racers is not yet out here, it is probably the BEST handheld racer on the market.
