Assassin’s Creed Shadows was Europe’s best-selling new game of 2025

This is all because of you people who were born too late and got your Nintendo nostalgia from Ubisoft.
Sad Jim Carrey GIF

Next time be born on time Ubisoft enjoyers. If you are going to be late, just wait a few years and be a zoomer. This middle ground ACShadows bullshit is gross guys.

Wonder what portion of sales are from hardware bundles like cpu, GPU, laptops, etc (not consoles). Like are those numbers ever made public for any promotion? They must be worthwhile cause I always get at least one game with my PC hardware purchases.

it is ?

EDIT: they say « game bundles are included, including physical and digital » and then they say Digital data for Mario Kart World is excluded, it is contradictory.

And they can't really count all Switch 2 Mario Kart bundles as Mario Kart units sold as they cannot be sure people will redeem their code.
If MK is bought at a retail store, either as part of a Switch 2 bundle or a standalone cartridge, it's counted.

If it's downloaded through the eshop, it's not counted.

Doesn't matter if someone redeems the bundle code or not. They've paid for it so it counts as a sale.

People really enjoy them. It's the casual man's perfect game. Its shit on a lot by the more invested people (like on forums), but the average guy probably loves these games.

Despite these claims I couldn't find any ACTUAL sales figures to go along with this chart of games, which previously would have been very easy to provide.. yet we are expected to accept this on face value because … GSD are a trusted source?
Maybe I missed something but I would be very interested on the full breakdown of sales for all these titles alongside the sources of the sales.. ie physical (which shops in which countries) digital.. which online stores etc…and by country..
Otherwise it's a pretty meaningless chart, probably sponsored by Ubisoft via a couple of holding companies.. (kidding, chart sales could never be corrupted through bribes and false sales in the video games industry like the music industry where they have had to knock off millions of sales on some artists albums recently when fraud was discovered)

Actual sales figures are never provided with these charts (that I've seen anyway). Yes, GSD is a trusted source. They are basically the Circana equivalent for Europe.

GSD has the exact numbers, but you have to pay to get them. The retail numbers come directly from stores and digital numbers come directly from the publishers themselves.

ze French supporting ze French... Sorry Ze French, but you guys buy slop. (i understand your countrymen countryXer made it but still, you guys also did the 2024 weird drag queen Olympics ceremony thing too)

All Joking aside. Wtf.. Didn't that sell like crap elsewhere? I didn't see anyone playing it.

Well it's also the second best selling new game in the US, so I wouldn't say it's selling like crap.

Assassin's Creed never has record-breaking sales when they are released, but they tend to always sell well over the course of a year. I wouldn't be surprised if they get to 10 million lifetime sales by this time next year.

It beat Monster Hunter Wilds? That's incredibly hard to believe...

The game was at meager 5 million players in July (so probably around 4-4.7 million copies sold). Wilds sold 10 million copies by March and is probably at around 11-12 million now. I know it's just Europe, but Wilds' distribution must be insanely skewed towards NA and Japan for this to be the case. It must have sold a small % in Europe.

How the hell is Star Wars BF2 , Rainbow 6 Siege (isn't that f2p), it takes two, and Battlefiled 1 still on there. Those games are almost 10 years old. GTA 5 is also on there wtf... that is 12 years old.... made on the ps3 for crying out loud. WTH.. How is that still selling?

Yet no Expedition 33. grrr...

The publisher of E33 didn't share the sales data.

It's very easy to believe when you know the fact that Assassin's Creed always sold better than Monster Hunter in Europe. This isn't Japan.

Pretty likely will achieve them faster, and at the end of its lifetime -many years in the future- will end selling over 20M copies. It had the 2nd fastest selling launch for an AC game (the top 1 was Valhalla) and 1st in PSN.

They are GaaS, MP and post launch content and improvements help to keep them fresh and their players engaged for many years.

I'm conflicted with this game. On the one hand, being the best-selling European game after Fifa is good, but on the other hand, it had only reached 5 million players after 4 months, which isn't great for a game of that caliber.
Game will have long legs, it's always on the top sellers list on PS Store.

Shadows will continue to sell well here in Europe, especially during the upcoming holiday period when the game should get a nice discount. I'm also expecting it to not fall out of the top 5 for 2025 on the GSD charts once everything is said and done (hope Dring will be kind enough to provide us with the numbers early next year).

Wait, the top game of 2025 is a game that released almost a year ago and we are jumping for joy over AC coming in second?

Edit: Before anyone wants to say I am calling it a flop, no I am not.
