Atari 7800+ bundle is surprisingly on sale for Cyber Monday

It's Cyber Monday. You know what that means.

You had to figure that with the PlayStation 5 and the Switch 2 getting tempting discounts, the other active console manufacturer (you know, the one based in America) would be compelled to respond with a deal of their own. And what do you know, folks? They actually did it!

Atari 7800+ bundle with Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest at Amazon:

On sale for $49.99 (normally $129.99).

Not the same price at Best Buy:

This is a great deal. I'd even go as far as to say that the holiday numbers are going to be crazy!

That's actually pretty cool. I think I only ever touched an Atari 7800 once in my life. But if nothing else, this would be good way to play 2600 cartridges

This sounds like a great deal. Unfortunately, I just checked the Amazon link and it shows this is selling for $102. That's far too high for an ancient retro console. Cut that down to $79 (the original 1986 price of the 7800) or less, and it becomes a must-buy for all retro gamers.

As always, my only complaint about this console is that it doesn't seem to play the Champ Games 2600 cartridges. That's a real shame, because those are some of the greatest 2600 videogames ever seen. Fixing that problem ought to be priority one.

I had the original 7800 back in the day. It was one of the first video game systems to have built-in backward compatibility (although not with its immediate predecessor, the 5200).

I haven't tried the 7800+ yet, but have considered getting one, as it would be an easy way to play the 2600 and 7800 games on a modern HDTV.

Shows as $100 for me..

Just a few minutes after I posted the first post, I noticed the price has been fluctuating. I assume that whatever vendor had it at $49.99 ran out of stock, and now it's bouncing to other vendors that have it around the $100 mark.

I agree.

Woot (which is owned by Amazon) had the Atari 7800+ on sale for $59.99 a few times over the last few months, even as recently as a few weeks ago. They've also sold some of Atari's newly produced 2600 and 7800 games there.

One of my friends has the 7800+ and follows the homebrew scene very closely. From what he has told me, this is something they're working on through firmware updates. According to threads on AtariAge, at least some of the Champ Games games are working now.
