I've been thinking of upping my system to an Athlon 64 processor, just haven't been willing to plop the cash down, but at this price I'm tempted. I realize the processor is kind of on the lower end of the 64-bit scale, but would it be worth upgrading from an overclocked Athlon 2500 XP system? I recently bought a Geforce 6800 and thought this might complement the card better, especially since my board is an early nForce2 adopter and doesn't support dual-channel memory setups. The board looks like it's an ECS, but you never really know with these combos until you're in-store. Whadda ya think, GAF?

Ah, checked it out already? What kind of chipset is it sporting?
I know that if Fry's has a Mobo combo and DON'T list a mobo OEM, then it is 99% ECS. It is probably the VIA K8T800 chipset.

Bleck, definately don't want to go that route. I'll give 'em a call and see if they're always-so-help floor staff can tell me the type of board. My last system was built on one of their mobo+CPU deals, but the board was a pretty decent DFI mobo with an nForce2 chipset, way back in the day when that was a pretty cutting-edge chipset.

Raven.

Is that boad bad cause of the socket or is it cause of the brand? I've been thinking on buying an ecs nforce4 socket 939, is it any good(review at extremetech recommended it, and buyer comments at newegg were good, but I'd like to hear what ye guys've to say )?

ECS have gotten better over time. I have a celeron machine with an ECS board in it and for a internet/light gaming machine it works fine.

They are just lower quality compared to Asus or MSI

Gave 'em a call. The board is definitely a let-down - ECS K8M00-M2, Micro-ATX form factor, VIA K8M800 chipset, doesn't look like it'll support dual-channel RAM configurations, only three PCI slots, etc. Ah well.
