ATI R520 > 2 6800 Ultra SLI?

This is from the Inquirer so this should probably be taken with a huge grain of salt, but I saw this article over there:

We got some numbers from this card and it turns out that R520 scores more than 10000 in 3Dmark05. We still don't know its clock speeds but we know the score. For what we know Nvidia can not mach this with G70.

This is actually even better or equal to two 6800 Ultra cards in SLI which kinds of makes it looks ridiculously fast. Imagine R520 in Crossfire, what ATI "cool chap" described as "Coolest technology ever" could do? Just double the number please.

No question that R520, Fudo will be fast the only questions remains are when is it going to be out and when it will actually be available. We will hopefully found out more soon.

New card gens tend to double alot of #s from previous gen, so wouldn't surprise me.
That being said, it's a shitload of power.

they got some numbers fro the card, but they don't know how fast it runs? how exactly did they get the numbers then? yawn. ill wait for anandtech to have a got @ a the two officially.

I'll help this thread along:

R520 >>>>> G70
Xenos >>>> RSX :lol
360 >>>>> PS3 :lol :lol

They don't usually double something from the previous gen.

I'm glad we cleared that up before the thread hit 4 pages.

It doesn't matter. All we need to know to troll is that it nVidia can't "mach" it with the G70 cause it's strictly subsonic and Chuck Yager is all gimped up.

Ohh, and the some dude we can find 'in the Guinness Book of World Fucking Records under the Raddest Fucking Dude Alive' said it's the "coolest technology ever."

But wait, if this is the coolest then what about the R500? ... Ok, sorry...

Is Xenos based on R520??

nope. Xenos is based on the unreleased R400, which was retooled, reworked, enhanced, and dramatically pumped up into what is now the Xbox 360 graphics.

R520 aka 'Fudo' is based on R3xx and R420 'Loki' with improvements and more pipes

there are now two major ATI graphics processor families:

R300 ---> R350 --> R360 --------> R420 --> R480 ---------> R520

.........................................R400 ---------------------------> Xenos ------------> R600

Holy Christ aren't we a bit touchy. Sheesh. Look, the Inquirer isn't known for telling the truth anyway and god only knows where the hell they got these numbers so you don't have to get all pissy. This is probably another bunch of bullshit. I didn't realize some of you guys would have a fucking brain hemmorage otherwise I wouldn't have bothered posting it.

Yea, double the fps typically, more effects, and more detailed image quality. Each annual generation of cards is somewhere around 4-5X more powerful overall I'd say.

So why DID you post it? For someone who likes to act like they're above petty fanboy bickering it was certainly a questionable move to make a serious topic out of a source you readily acknowledge as not being known for telling the truth and probably a bunch of bullshit.

I didn't start this thread with the intent of turning it into some asinine PS3/360 bitch fest. I wasn't even interested in the G70 quip from the article (if I was I would've quoted the much more sensational first paragraph from the piece). However I did find the prospect of the R520 being faster than a dual 6800 Ultra SLI set up promising even though the Inquirer is hardly ever right about anything.

There was no alterative motive here but I know I can't convince you guys of that so believe what you want.

Xenos is a generation ahead of the R520.

RSX owned.

In design perhaps but certainly not power. Its only considered a "generation" ahead in design because ATI isn't using that design for their concurrent PC part. They'll be a lot closer when it comes to what they're actually capable of spitting out to the screen. Not to poo-poo Xenos or the 360, its going to be very powerful. But this "leaping ahead of the PC" hyperbole needs to be reigned in a bit. At least when it comes to the GPUs.

Xenos GPU needs to be way ahead of the curve to last a 5 year cycle.

You can't design a GPU that's 'way ahead of the curve' in every respect, stick it in a console, sell it for a reasonable price, and expect it to last 5 years. Its impossible. It will be xutting edge when released, and the most important thing is flexibility. Will it technically out-muscle a videocard by the same company being released in the same timeframe retailing for ~500? Doubtful. But it may produce nicer visuals.

Yes, I know that. :P I expect videocard technology to surpass the consoles in about a year or two. But at the same time the full muscle of PC videocards are never used so its full potential will never be tapped like Xenos and RSX.

I won't let you continue your propaganda.

wow double the specs then 2 6800U SLI.... and all it will cost is your soul and your first born child... CAN'T WAIT!

I own and play both games all the time...

HL2 does not "blow away" Ninja Gaiden in my view....

There are things in NG I prefer to HL2....

The art design for one and the character animation to name another....

The "virtual acting" in HL2 are pretty horrific and the load times? :lol

Game has fantastic physics, though, and the textures are purty :)

Nah, I'm just screwing around with the fact that you posted utter shit.

Although, since you ask, I am a bit touchy though, with She's All That on TV and all... that's some sad shit man. Haha, I did get to meet Rachael Leigh Cook last week when she was in Chicago, such a hottie -- so I figured it's time to watch this and I'm just a bit emotional.... :p

Already kind of said but adopting (some of) the architecture of a later chip != having the performance of that later chip. In fact, in terms of raw power and shader performance, I'd expect R520 to outperform R500, clockspeed dependent. That power is just arranged differently (and it's debateable if it's arranged in an "inferior" fashion).

The G70, I'm sure, is also faster than 2 6800 Ultras (if RSX is, I'm sure it is).

Anyone trying to derive RSX/R500 relative performance from this is walking into brick walls..

Its just my opinion that HL2 does not blow away Ninja Gaiden (have you played this game, BTW, it really pretty good)

I abosolutely think the character animation in NG was spot on and it just has a "look" that is just amazing to this day...

Then again, it is a Japanese game....the look and feel of JPN games just aren't everyones cup of tea...

The acting in HL2 was total ASS, imo I HATE it with a passion....so trite...

Again, I feel games like Resident Evil 4 and Ninja Gaiden hold up very well to HL2....in fact, I think RE4 is an outright better game.....

Klee.. noone is arguing the artstyle nor gameplay, as you so imply in your last statement. I don't know why you're intent on muddling these 2 irrelevant factors. How do these affect the technical nature of the titles? They don't.

I can't say I have so I'm not in a position to compare the games in this aspect. Rather you seemed dismissive of HL2 in this regard and I wanted to point out that the artstyle and animation in HL2 is absolutely top notch, particularly for a western PC game. The foreboding Orwellian atmosphere the game sets is leaps and bounds beyond most games and the animation and particularly facial animation is first class.

Then again, it is a Japanese game....the look and feel of JPN games just aren't everyones cup of tea...

I have no problem with Japanese games whatsoever, you mention RE4 which I think is a phenomenal game; it's intricacies of its animation and artistic flair just shit on practically everything else as far as I'm concerned.

The acting in HL2 was total ASS, imo I HATE it with a passion....so trite...

Completely subjective, this is in fact the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about HL2's voice acting. Give me some examples?

Again, I feel games like Resident Evil 4 and Ninja Gaiden hold up very well to HL2....in fact, I think RE4 is an outright better game.....

I'd put HL2 slightly over RE4.

Technically Ninja Gaiden is far behind Half Life 2. It looks okay if you focus on what the camera shows but if you get a look at anything else like the background you can see N64 quality textures.
