Via Persona Central:

Atlus has published its financial statement for the company’s eleventh fiscal term under Sega ownership, which ended on March 31, 2024.

The sales of games released from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024 consisted of Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection, Persona 5 Tactica, Persona 3 Reload, and Unicorn Overlord.

Atlus states that, despite challenges in the consumer game market, the company contributed significantly to the Sega Sammy Group’s profits due to strong sales from the newly released titles and continued sales from the Persona series.

Fiscal Year Business Overview

Atlus’ 11th fiscal year ranged from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

Company Market Analysis

In regards to the consumer game market, growth has currently plateaued due to ongoing geopolitical risks and inflation in various countries and regions. Additionally, game development costs continue to rise due to higher labor costs and longer development periods, making it urgent to address these changes in the business environment.

On the other hand, the diversification of game content delivery methods driven by the growth of emerging economic regions have established an environment where content and services can be provided over the long term across all devices and platforms worldwide. Consequently, expectations for the growth of the game market remain high. Under these business conditions, our company has focused on the release of major package game titles and the licensing business, leading to a favorable performance.

Packaged Game Business

In the packaged game business, we released:
  • Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection
  • Persona 5 Tactica
  • Persona 3 Reload
  • Unicorn Overlord
Persona 3 Reload was released in February 2024, and achieved sales of 1 million units in one week worldwide, making it the fastest selling title in Atlus’ history. In March of the same year, Unicorn Overload, a co-developed title with Vanillaware, surpassed 500k sales worldwide.

Additionally, we undertook various initiatives, including the release of remastered versions of the classic IP Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection as well as Persona 5 Tactica, the first strategy RPG in the Persona series.

Furthermore, the Persona series sold over 22 million copies worldwide, maintaining a high level of overseas sales for Atlus.

Licensing Business

In the licensing business, Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload had collaborations with Tokyo Tower for around 4 months in November 2023, which had a good reception. In December 2023, a music event “SQ F.O.E band LIVE2023 from Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection,” and in February 2024 the “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Orchestra Concert 2024 -Restart-” was held as a repeat performance for the concert held in January 2023.

We’ve also continued to work on large-scale collaborations between leading smartphone game titles from other companies using our IP, which have been well received.

Profits & Losses

As a result of these business activities, we were able to make a significant contribution to the Group’s profits.

On the other hand, our non-consolidated profit/loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024 was a loss due to the impact of the amortization of business rights with the transfer of operations from Index Co., Ltd. to SEGA Dream Co., Ltd. in November 2013, each fiscal year. However, there has still been a significant contribution to the Sega Sammy Group’s consolidated financial results in terms of earnings.

Additionally, the balance sheet shows a high level of financial soundness, with an equity ratio of 33.80% and a current ratio of 135.63%.

Atlus concludes that it believes its mission is to continue to develop games that will please its customers, and continue to contribute to the Group’s performance.

Glad they are doing well, just keep feeding us English versions of games. I can't translate Japanese, but I love their style.
