Atlus/NIS market prices update...

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga is back in stock at Amazon courtesy of a new shipment, $54.99 plus tax and S&H.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is long out of print, but the prices seem to be on a downward trend and you can easily get a good deal on Ebay. Even sealed copies generally aren't fetching any more than MSRP.

Atelier Iris is still in stock, $49.99.

Makai Kingdom is still in stock, $49.99.

Riviera seems to have gone out of print, no longer available at gameexpress.com, and it is listing at $69.99 on Amazon. Most Ebay auctions are pirates from Hong Kong, China or Malaysia; if there's no photograph of the actual item, then bid at your own risk. There's only one auction currently going that I would even remotely trust, and it's at $30 with a day to go.

Stella Deus will probably get a price drop before it sells out, and you can currently get it pretty much anywhere.

Phantom Brave: LE is going for $20. At that price, it's a no-brainer.

The EB here will probably have Riviera in stock, since pretty much no one around here buys those type of games. How much do you think it would go for on ebay?

There's no telling, it's too early. The game only came out a month ago and it was still available from a handful of websites just a few days ago. I personally sold a copy on Amazon for $69.99, which is stunning for a month-old game. I bought three copies, and I'll be selling one here on GAF for MSRP once it gets shipped to me, so stay tuned.

If you want some initial idea of the perceived value of this game, watch this auction:

Who fucking cares, grifter.

I'm just supporting my habit. In the long run, I'm coming out roughly even. ;) Besides, I hardly see how pointing out ways GAFers can avoid buying from grifters like me is bad.

It's probably good news that Nocturne went through its print run without hitting the bargain bin - means that it likely met Atlus USA's sales expectations, which ups the chances of them bringing over future MegaTen games.

...but then again, Rez never hit bargain bin prices either and it was regarded as a commercial failure. Hmm, I wonder what the case is.

SMT:N has been on TRU Green Tag sale in a couple of places, which amounts to 30% off list price. So it kind of hit the bargain bin, but not really. I'm sure a handful of stores will have to relegate it in the bins - not many.

I want to support Atlus so much I almost bought the two remaining copies of the DDS boxset I saw at Electronics Boutique the other day. I'd never ever try to turn around and sell them down the road on eBay when they inevitably become rare. I'd cherish those two extra copies like I do my original.

if you're looking for B&M copies of DDS, i would suggest TRU actually. they never sent any 'empty display cases' for them, so they're not displayed on the floor. and i know at least my (ex) store got 6 copies, of which it hasnt even sold one.

i suspect alot of other TRU's would have similar problems.

Ah, so THAT'S what I saw. When I've gone to any TRU around here, they've had empty display cases on display. That confused me because it made me think they got a different version that wasn't the Deluxe box (which, as far as I can tell, is the only way it is sold).

I don't know where you live but Rez hit bargain bin prices within 6 months after release. Hell, people were able to score copies at $5 from a CC clearance sale less than a year ago.

I never even got the chance to get Riviera. Oh well. They just won't be getting my money now. :o I really think the OOP stuff with them is ridiculous. :x Just seems to make alot of people more encouraged to pirate. :lol I need to pick up SMT: DDS eventually.. Have SMT: N and PB limited.

"Eventually getting around to buying" and "Atlus" don't generally mix, in my experience anyways.

Yeah, that's quite clear. Lol. I mean, if I can't find ways to buy something, I'll find other ways to play the game. =/

Did Riviera seriously get THAT small of a release? I mean damn, it's been out like a month and it's going for 70 bucks? That's fucking stupid. Glad I got mine.

The only place I've actually seen a physical copy was the place I bought it, which was a GameCrazy. I've been to at least 35 other stores that sell games since then, and not one has had a single copy of Riviera.

My local EB and Gamestop both had in a bunch of copies the first week or so, I walked in about a week after release and picked one up off the shelf. I haven't been in a game store recently, so I don't know what it's like now though.

Slightly OT, but Amazon has the original Fire Emblem in stock again for $20.98. For a while there it was going for more than MSRP.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about Riviera. Wal-mart's website is accepting pre-orders and stating that they will ship on August 8th. It may be that there was a small initial release to satisfy the most rabid collectors in order to hike up demand among a broader public.

I just called TNJ, they told me that although their website says Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Moto GP 2 are in stock, they aren't. They sold out. :/ Sorry about that. If you placed an order, call them and cancel it. If you want to order SMT:N from them, I recommend doing so by phone - they have a toll-free number. If it's sold out, they'll tell you.

Either Wal-Mart is stupid or knows the business. I actually noticed that too when I was searching the eWeb for Riviera.

Anyway, I ordered my Riviera with my play-asia order. It was $40, but I bit because I was already getting Polarium for $20, Puzzle Collection for $20, and Astro Boy for $13, so the world evens out.

NEW SHIPMENT OF RIVIERA: THE PROMISED LAND SENT TO RETAILERS NATIONWIDE
Having trouble finding Riviera in stores? Fear not, more product is on its way to stores right now! Don't miss out on this wonderful GBA RPG!

Sorry to bump this thread, but after 2 1/2 months some things have changed, some haven't. I remain as interested and mystified as ever by the RPG market.

Disgaea and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne are still available from several retailers at full price, because of the re-release; consequently, the value of used copies has gone down somewhat, but SMT:N with the soundtrack or Disgaea with the original sticky seal are still golden. If you have them, hang on to them. If you can find them, buy them.

Phantom Brave LE is now out of stock at Amazon, but its value isn't budged an inch. If you can find it at a Toys 'R' Us, it'll be a green tag item. This game seems almost unsaleable; it hasn't sold more than 1000 copies a month since May. But it is a Nippon Ichi SRPG, so there could conceivably be an Ebay-fueled market for it in the future. But it's absolutely certain that it won't have the instant, explosive and enduring demand that Disgaea did.

A very different case is Stella Deus. I just finished picking through the NPD numbers, and after tallying it up I see that since its release in April, it has sold just 23,500 copies. Yet the price isn't dropping anywhere, not even on Amazon or Ebay, which is an indication that there isn't any massive overstock even with that very small quantity moved out the door. The key to getting this game will probably be when Wal-Mart decides to clearance it out. It's a low print run, but it's still rather large compared with PS1 games like Valkyrie Profile and Suikoden II. Back then, 8,000 was a large print run for that kind of title.

Last but not least.. Digital Devil Saga. I'm conflicted about this one. Amazon sold out just within the last few days, and the price of a sealed copy instantly approached $90. There are still a few places you can get it for MSRP or less though, and Toys 'R' Us is having a hard time selling their copies in many areas because there weren't enough display cases. It might not be a bad idea to scoop up a copy during the Buy 2, Get 1 free sale later this month.

Makai Kingdom, Atelier Iris, and Riviera are rolling along, steadily gathering momentum. Riviera in particular has gone from its initial dire shortages to become a major sales success by Atlus standards, and good for them. Sucks for the guy I sold my copy to for $70, but if he had been patient, he would have paid a normal price like everyone else. :D

Oh, yeah, one last thing. Cubivore is $49.99 at gamequestdirect.com.
