Atomfall Has Attracted 2 Million Players Since Launch

Over 2 million citizens have explored Atomfall's dangerous biomes, foraging for meat, drinking beer, and bonking druids on the head with cricket bats. The RPG is shaping up to be one of Rebellion's greatest achievements—if not the greatest—and the developer has a ton of fun facts about the two million Atomfall players who've played the game.

This again? Lol dude. Should I post again the list of games with high CCU despite being day 1 on GP?

And Atomfall still manages to find success it seems 🤷‍♂️

Yes, can a known franchise with a huge fanbase waiting 15 years for a sequel massively jump on and bought on Steam such as STALKER 2? Yes.

Can an unknown new franchise with "ok" reviews have peoples exploring the game on gamepass rather than spend full price on Steam? Yes.

Yes. That's the point.

Steam CCU alone is not really a good indicator of the game's total player base, or sales base for that matter, if it's on multiple other platforms.
Steam CCU is only part of the story, but it's one of the only things we know until the publishers or sales people give us sales numbers (or in this case players).

Sure, but don't forget to add Atomfall to the list this time, please.
Numbers are there for anyone to see.

Yeah sure. Atomfall seems fine, I was quoting him more in relation to the argument that Steam CCU isn't an indicator of sales, which I think is big cope.

It is a good indicator for estimating Steam game sales. Analysts have been using that number for years at this point.

Some of you keep downplaying Steam CCU only because your favorite gaming company can't hit high-enough numbers there, so suddenly it "doesn't matter."

Edit: Nevermind, removed the post, fuck I'm stupid, I missed a whole month in my calculations

Instead, I'll say good for atomfall.

very much enjoying the game myself, refreshing to get away from open world(ish) games set in boring america but i wish they would fix the quick save/resume sound bug on xbox :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Thank you both for joining in on what this type of thread SHOULD be about.
All you others are being killjoys making sales and war comparison posts with other games.

I have it downloaded, next game after South of Midnight.

I think it got a massive patch a day or two ago too so hopefully it fixes any lingering launch day issues / hitches.

Yes, agreed. It is a good indicator for estimating Steam sales and Steam sales alone.
I think if a game is not on a sub service it can be a good indicator of overall sales, take Concord. Even better if it's an online game where CCU matters the most versus a single player game.

does it count the free gamerpass user
It counts people paying $0 for it as part of a subscription they would have kept regardless, and people paying $1 to rent it with a game pass trial.

An unknown number of those 2 million players are paying an unknown amount to play it. Even Microsoft wouldn't be able to put a very accurate $ amount on the game pass players.

Game seemed interesting but crashed twice on my pc. Xbox game pass version for the record, maybe other store front versions are in better state. It seemed interesting at least, maybe I'll check it out on the Xbox or pc later again.

It's a way better game than SoM imo

(And I like SoM)

But Atomfall reallllly scratches my immersive sim/survival horror itch in a really good way

There are no sales on xbox, i can assure you
Just to put things into perspective, the Steam version peaked at 6k CCUs. There are ~1.7k reviews currently. These are dreadful numbers.

The Xbox version has 3k reviews and that's likely 99% Game Pass players reviewing it.

So unless this game managed to over perform on PlayStation (it didn't) this game is a huge bomb.

Of course. I don't think anybody argues that Steam's CCU is also used to determine a game's sale on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo.

It is a commonly-used metric to calculate Steam sales. No more; no less.

Define success

The devs themselves?

Over 2 million citizens have explored Atomfall's dangerous biomes, foraging for meat, drinking beer, and bonking druids on the head with cricket bats. The RPG is shaping up to be one of Rebellion's greatest achievements—if not the greatest

Success is relative. For this dev it can be their biggest achievement, in the meantime Square Enix is never satisfied with any sales.

I don't think anyone bought it on PS or Xbox or anything else for that matter. Even looking at Twitch, the biggest viewer right now has 207 people. The others are 20 viewers or less. In all aspects, it seems it's not doing well anywhere.

Nor PS.

Correct

or sales base for that matter, if it's on multiple other platforms.
Incorrect

Sales can be extrapolated, and in most cases, if a game sells low on PC, it also sells low elsewhere. Of course there are exceptions.

If the sales were anything to write home about, they would.

There are a lot of exceptions. Too many to properly determine the outcome. KC2, overwhelming ahead on PC. AC Shadows, overwhelmingly ahead on console.
And don't forget Silent Hill 2 remake, also mostly console. And that's about it for the exceptions from last few years.

In any case, Atomfall seems like a more PC gamer oriented game if anything, so one would except it to do better there.

Good vibes PR isn't a metric for success.

Yeah, probably not which is a shame. I do think the game will do better over time and build an audience after multiple sales. Should do better than Strange Brigade at least.
