Remake/rebirth do a better job fleshing out Cloud's character (in a good way) than the original ever did.

In a game that has you fighting house monsters, mechanics that turn your characters into frogs, talking wolf-dogs, and on and on and on, this feels consistent with the tone of the world.

Besides, if they removed all of the goofy stuff from the game it would have felt like the "too cool for school" try hard that was advent children. A movie that was so serious and joyless that the Bahamut fight, while awesome, signaled a sigh of relief that the slog was finally over.

If Doom was a game that involved dressing up as a woman to seduce a crime lord, infiltrating a city by using a jumping dolphin, fighting alongside a cartoony cat riding a giant plushie, visiting a theme park where you play minigames and go on dates with your party members, summoning a cute furry creature riding a giant chicken and having a dog/lion party member dressing up as a soldier and walking on 2 legs (and actually fooling people with it).
