Audio sync problems with fiber optic cable for PS2?

I just hooked up my PS2 to my home theatre with a fiber optic cable, but I'm coming across audio sync problems when a DVD is playing. Is this a common problem? I can't seem to find any real solid answer anywhere. :/

I've not heard of it

But let me get all the posts outta the way to save others hasel

Post 1) Why are you using a ps2 as a DVD player
Post 2) PS2 DVD Player is TEH SUCK
Post 3) How old is your ps2
Post 4) Blame it on the Sony hardware

Now that thats outta the way...

If you have the chance, try it with a couple games and with another device that outputs Optical

No. I've used two generations of PS2s without any audio problems through the toslink optical port.

There is less than a handful of games that can't use the port, but that's about the only problem I've ever heard of. What sort of setup do you have?

I've used 3 different PS2s as DVD players intermittently for 3 years, using half a dozen different optical cables on 3 audio receivers and never had this problem.

i've had dvd audio sync problems, but i don't think it has anything to do with the optical output, which i've never used.

Wait a sec, I actually do recall hearing about this problem with early PS2 systems. It would happen halfway through a movie, and all you had to do to fix it is hit stop and then play again.

Yeah, basically this is what happens. I have a launch PS2 as well. As for the moment the only DVD player I have is the PS2. :/

After a bit of searching it seems I will have to get the remote to fix the audio sync problems.

Yep, thats the issue. I think its when the system switches layers. And to the ps2's credit, some regular stand alone dvd players of that erra had the same issue.

Glad we figured it out, on the bright side, the remote is rather cheap right now

I had a weird problem with the optical output of the PS2 when trying to hook it up to my Spherex Xbox 5.1 surround kit. Basically, when hooked up directly, I never was able to get any sound out of it. I tried everything, and nothing ever worked. I found out that the only way to make it work is by connecting the optical output of the PS2 to my Audio Authority component switcher, and having the switcher convert the optical signal to a coaxial signal. Now it works, but I really don't understand why......
