Audiophiles, I have a couple of tiny Logitech Z-5500 questions re: placement, input

So I got my Z-5500s in the mail today but have yet to set them up. Basically I will be following the suggested layouts from Dolby's official site and I need to know if it makes any difference should the speakers be at an angle when mounted on the wall. I can't put them directly in the corner so I'll have to mount them to the front wall and then swivel them to point where I want them to, but this will cause them to be at an angle of roughly 30-45 degrees. Kind of like this:

Code:
    ____
   / /
  / /
 /____/
Will this make any difference to the sound quality?

Also, just quickly, if anyone else has a set of these speakers can you suggest how I'd go about setting up my Xbox, GameCube and PlayStation all at the same time? I can only find the optical input on the back of the control centre, which I'll be using for the Xbox. Will I need to get an AV selector as well? I was under the impression the Z-5500s had a bunch of inputs before I bought it. :(

"Nope."

Heh late to reply to this, but what the heck :) I just bought these speakers and was searching the fourm for tips on them.

The best way to share your speakers with all of your devices is to buy a Pelican PL-957 Pro System Selector. Go check it out on their web page, it is VERY reasonably priced. Im in the process of getting one of these myself.

Cheers for the serious reply. As much as I enjoy Jack Black and his fat friend pictures I definitely preferred yours (however, if anyone can find one with fat friend without his shirt on, possibly covered in some type of breakfast condiment, that'd be awesome).

I'm stupid as hell and went out and bought two Y-adapters as suggested in the manual, and not only did I buy a Y-adapter with a male and female connector (all female is apparently the correct adapter), I don't even know if I have the right 3-stereo mini cable. Is that the same lime, orange and black one which comes with the speakers? Do I just plug the three from one end into the control centre and one from the other end into the Y-adapter, or do I need to buy a completely seperate 3-stereo mini cable with only one connection at one end and three at the other? For such an easy to set up system I seem to be having a lot of trouble. See: stupid as hell. Ugh.

I'll look into one of those AV selectors as well, as I want to have all my consoles set up at once without having to get up off my lazy arse to switch cables. The only reason I got the speakers instead of a PSP and Lumines was so I could finally hear Rez in its full glory and I was so let down yesterday when my stupid arse tried connecting everything up with the wrong connections. So, so disappointing.

I'm guessing angle them downwards if they are higher than ear level if you mount them at ear level then keep them straight ahead

well, the 3 inputs on the back are separate (as far as i know... i have mine hooked up separately) so you can have either input1, input2, or input3 selected from the main unit..(i dont think you can have all 3 going at once) the way i have mine set up for my consoles is with a Y cable into 'input 1' and a 3-way console svideo/audio cable. ie.

one end of the y cable is two female RCA connectors, the other end is a 3.5mm stereo minijack thing (like the end of a headphone cable) to plug into input 1 - i plug in the consoles to the RCA connectors on one end, and it works fine :p

youre fine from the sounds of it with the xbox optical connector, so you could either get an rca audio switch box, or just have 2 x Y cables (like the one i mentioned above - oen for the ps2, one for the cube... have one in input 1, the other in input 2)

alterntaively, purchase one of those multi-console s-video/audio cables from liksang/play asia... dirt cheap and easy to switch around :D hope that makes sense!

edit - this is what you need for your y-cable

Hmmm, that's the Y-adapter I got yesterday. However, looking at the packet it says 2.5mm so I'm not sure if that's the problem or not. Does the measurement refer to the depth of the pin or the width? I'm guessing depth seeing as the 2.5mm one I have has a small stop at the base preventing the pin going all the way in, as opposed to the image you posted with no stop. The diagram in the large sheet shows an all-female Y-adapter connected to some thing they call a 3-stereo mini cable, though, which is what got me confused. You're running them separately, which is what I understood as being possible, so I'll just try the 3.5mm Y-adapter before bothering with any of the other shit.

Thanks, hopefully I'll be playing Rez loud enough to annoy all of the sucky neighbours around me in the next couple of days. :)

Thanks also, quin. I wall-mounted them 'cause I don't have any stands yet and I think I need to re-position them, even with all the pre-placement experimenting I went through. The way I mounted them looks pretty ghetto too, so hopefully stands will clean it up a little as well as make it easier to find the best placement for my room.

Alternately, if your TV has audio-out, you can run that to the reciever as well. You won't need a swithbox or mulitple Y-cables. Plus, you'll be able to watch your TV programs using Pro-Logic II.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. I'm pretty sure my tele has audio-out so that's what I'll be doing if it does. Cheers.
