Anyone able to confirm these as being trustworthy? Surprised the numbers are out so early although I guess that is consistent with a lot of the big August releases being out of the NPD window.

So that would make Tales what, over 200,000 sold in the US? Not bad I think for a game that Namco didn't put any effort advertising.

It did well on GameCube?! Well, stop GC development and port that shit to Xbox and PS2! </sega>

Why would anyone take the time to fake these numbers? It would be social GAF suicide to do something like that.

Erm, well youre a junior member so very easily a throw-away account. Social suicide would be applicable if someone like say Wario64 made them up.

Datawhore provided the numbers last month and Bunkum confirmed them.

BTW, thanks Datawhore!

Wario committed Hollywood suicide on G4.

Woah @ those hardware numbers.

These look legit to me.

Very impressive numbers for both Madden and 2K5. It looks like 2K5 may end up doing 30-40% of Madden's numbers, which is a massive improvement obviously (though maybe not in $$$ terms).

Does anyone have last year's first month Madden sales handy? It owuld be interesting to see if they were impacted by the ESPN price drop.

Those Rainbow Six/Black Arrow sales are also highly impressive.

I think you meant to say 1,508,399 for the PS2. XBL's addition had essentially no effect on sales of the PS2 version, but it did get people like me who had bought ESPN in the past to buy Madden.

/me goes back to his Franchise.

Oh, and does anyone still want to argue that the Metroid bundle was a brilliant idea? First month on sale, with two competitors hobbled by shortages, and it still barely shifts any units.

Told ya there was a shortage Jedi. Just seems to have been a PS2 "mostly" shortage.

Meanwhile absolute garbage is released for the GBA in August and it still manages to sell better than the consoles.

Seven out of the top ten best selling console games in the US in August are yearly updates to american football titles? Somehow that makes me want to cry.

Well, they really don't have many options. It's way too early to make the drop to $79. What other options do they have? This option gives them the absolutely best shot at having a positive effect on their biggest holiday game, Echoes.

I'm not at all surprised by the Black Arrow numbers. A simple check on Xdude Live the other night showed around 150,000 registered gamertags on the Black Arrow stats board. Sure some of those are from rentals, but average that in with the people who bought it and don't have Xdude Live...

WOW,

-GBA over 100,000 more than XBOX or PS2, can't wait for September numbers.

-NFL 2k5 might outsell Madden on XBox, especially with the holiday season coming up and people having had the chance to compare the games.

-Those Symphonia numbers are great considering it got no TV marketing like Star Ocean.

-Sega's only games in the Top Ten for the systems are in GBA and GCN, gee I wonder where they'll stop their development first. (I'm not counting the up-for-sale Visual Concepts games).

-Pokemon RuSa has once again managed to outsell Halo. It going to be interesting to see if Pokemon File or Halo 2 comes out on top for the holiday season under Madden and San Andreas.

- 5 Mario games made those lists, not bad, with Paper Mario 2 coming up, should be a strong October for Nintendo.

Wow! Those hardware numbers can't be right...can they? This would be the second time in recent history that Xbox has outsold PlayStation 2 in a given month in the U.S.

If these numbers are right, while Microsoft has zero hope in catching Sony overall (or in the U.S. or any major area of the world), it does seem to be very competitive on a monthly basis. It's nice to see someone finally give Sony some real competition.

I think the Metroid Bundle was a good Idea. That Bundle will eventually get me to buy a Gamecube this holiday season.

Too bad these once every few months jumps on Xbox sales have a 30 day expiration date, and go back to #2 by the time the next numbers get released.

I don't get it...

To me, it looks like

This Year's Madden (August 2004)

PS2 MADDEN NFL 2005 1,112,588 = -300k over last years
XBX MADDEN NFL 2005 509,100 = +200k over last years

One can deduce that 200k jumped ship to Xbox from Sony and the other 100K went ESPN.

Sorry - you're right.

Correction:

Last Year's Madden (August 2003)

System Title Aug-03
PS2 MADDEN NFL 2004 1445950
XBX MADDEN NFL 2004 309890

This Year's Madden (August 2004)
PS2 MADDEN NFL 2004 1,508,399
XBX MADDEN NFL 2005 509,100

Still, with the PS2 growth in installed base, you would expect Madden's sales to increase more than 4.3%, year over year. Xbox Madden grew 64% - the Xbox Live effect?

The majority in Madden growth in August is attributable to Xbox Madden sales.

Err, both you and he are ignoring the 400k units sold of the $55 Collector's Edition of Madden for PS2 in your calculations.

it was only on sale for like 1/2 a month, and Nintendo wasn't even advertising it at all. It was meant for the purpose of hyping up Echoes in November anyway. Still, I'm sure we'll start to see the effects in September.

Go Tales! Just about at 200K, which I think is amazing all things considered. Hopefully word of mouth can keep it going decent through the holiday season.

Impressive for Xbox to outsell the PS2.

Total shit numbers for GCN software.

Even with the updated "Collector's Edition" calculations (see above), most of the growth is coming in the Xbox version. This is undeniably due to Xbox Live's superiority over the PS2 offering's.
