Welp, all the USA men are out now. None made it to the 4th round. Hopefully that new Home of US tennis center in Orlando that opened to the public this month can actually develop the young talent we have.

You're thinking of the US women (Navratilova & Seles most notable) , but US womens tennis is still doing just fine. The all time greats like Agassi, Sampras, Connors were all born on US soil. McEnroe was born in Germany to American parents....his dad was stationed there at a US airforce base when he was born. If you consider him a "foreign born player switching to US" then I guess technically you're right, but he has always been a US citizen. America has military bases all over the world so that's not too uncommon ¯\_(ツ

Most American players relied on big serves, and ending points quickly. It was very effective during the serve and volley era. Slower courts and more advanced rackets have neutralized that, and it favors grinders like Djokovic and Murray. The new tennis center in Orlando has a ton of clay courts and the USTA will start training their prospects primarily on clay just like they do in Spain and other European countries to adjust. Better late than never

Matches like this remind me of why I became a fan of Roger Federer. When he hits a single-handed backhand return winner off of a 130mph serve it's just unreal and beautiful. The fact that he can still put in mesmerising performances like this at 35, having won everything imaginable, just renews my admiration for him. I truly hope that a tennis genius like him manages to end his career in a way that is worthy of the greatness that he has achieved throughout his career.

i agree, i'm not getting my hopes up. that's a tough tough draw.
hoping murray somehow drops out in the next round though. Zverev hasn't exactly looked that great against a bunch of nobodies.
i think he will get to the quarters which is a good result for his comeback.
if federer gets to the finals with this draw and then loses to nadal i will jump out of a window.

As much as I'd LOVE a Swiss Semifinal, I just don't see Rog getting past both Keith and Murray. If it was just one of them, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that he could bring it for that match, but playing the tennis he needs to for the two of them is probably too much.
Regardless, as long as Murray loses against somebody, I'll be a happy camper

I just watched them too. That was so great to watch. The backhand was looking crisp.

Berdych had 26 winners to 14 UE's, which isn't a poor stat by any means. Federer had 40 to 17.
The question is if Federer can keep this up in the next match. We've seen "vintage Fed" fall off after a great performance before.

Finally Serena is playing early,9 EST,will have a chance to see her Live...poor Gibbs will receive a beating probably...not as much as I hope Kerber pounds CoCo tomorrow though lol...
Coco is going to pound Kerbers weak second serve thats for sure.
Kerber should still win the match though since her groundstroke consistency is extremely good and CoCo is inconsistent

Been here way too many times. It's fun to see him put in a performance like that and it's a reminder of how good he was but he never keeps it up all tournament. In one of the next few games he'll look like a different player and be knocked out no problem.
I want to believe but I just can't see it happening now. At least Novak being out gives some hope.
Would love to see Nadal or Fed get another slam.

I can't say I'm terribly keen to this sort of thing, but somebody on the first page was saying something about his grip. I really don't know though. It looked great.
Yeah for sure. Berdych seemed totally flummoxed that the ball was coming back with more pace from the backhand side. My favorite point though was that one at the net where he just read Berdych's shot perfectly and hit a winner.
That was really solid, think that was one of the two times he didn't drop a set there, right? He usually does really well there, was lucky to have the chance to watch him there a few times (though unlucky to have to watch him lose to Nadal once after winning the first set
