DOUGHNUTS!

Apple Cider...

Candy...

And if it's your thing... football.

Other than that, Fall sucks. It's cold and reminds me of death. I hate Michigan.

Autumn is the most fantastic time of year. October has my birthday and the official start of college basketball. November has the actual start of college basketball and Thanksgiving. The weather is perfect, crisp and cool. The leaves turn colors. The days get a little more gloomy, which is great.

Autumn here is wonderful.
65 degrees, dry, and no clouds in the sky.
It's peaceful and as winter nears you get the smell of wood burning in the air. The good kind from a fireplace.

Anyone who can should drive through upstate NY in the fall... The foliage in the valleys is gorgeous... ALL the colors are on display.

2. Fall foilage
Marge: Next to Spring and Winter, Fall is my absolute favorite season. Just look at all this beautiful foilage.
Lisa: It's not "foilage," mom, it's "foliage." Foo-liage.
Marge: That's what I said, foilage. It doesn't take a nucular scientist to pronounce foilage.

After months of hot weather, I welcome the cooling autumn. If only it didn't lead into winter...

Yeah, I love fall. It's winter I don't like.

You're in Michigan? I love driving up to the Upper Peninsula during the Fall Colors. Or Traverse City or Mackinac Island, for that matter. There's also not much better than visiting the cider mill on a cool afternoon and getting a hot cider and a cinnamon-sugar doughnut. Mmmm...

Right now, all the coniferous trees are stuck half and half between red and green. It's neat. Up where I live, though, it's more deciduous, so you don't notice it in the long run. But when I go to my campus a couple cities over, I notice it.

Could we drop this particular plotline already? She's YOUNG. We GET it. It doesn't need to be brought up constantly.

Boo hoo. Go cry in another thread.

Back on topic. This afternoon I was reminded of another wonderful thing about Autumn. It means back to school, which means thousands of new 18 year-olds on campus.

I don't think YOU get it. You were mocking her for misspelling "donuts/doughnuts" (which, by the way, she spelled right in the first post), and brought up her age (incorrectly) as a "reason" why she couldn't spell it correctly...as if young people are the ONLY ones who have trouble spelling.

You seem to have some issue with her -- don't care, don't want to know. But bringing up her age in this context is definitely aimed at her on a personal level, and it has no place here. So drop it.

And, oh yeah, fall is my favorite season, if anyone still cares.

I love Autumn.

I love the change it brings (trees and mood). Such a slow and peaceful time of year.

It's usually cold and windy, so you hardly hear the little brats playing outside.

+ Daylight Savings Ends this time of year too :(

Edit - Nevermind. Just read your private messages, jinx. This forum isn't the place.

maybe they're "D'OH!nuts."

I was thinking about this topic as well today because this is really the first cold day in Madison since last winter (High of 51 with a chilly wind). Leaves are turning amazing colors, all the mosquitoes are dead and Christmas is on the doorstep... and those are about all the positives one can get out of this miserable season.

1. Autumn means that despite all your wishing, winter is indeed coming and that means: snow, ice, sleet, covering every inch of your body and still getting stabbed by merciless wind, losing gloves and freezing your fingers off, sliding around in your car praying you don't kill anyone.. but if you do that they'll be buried deep in the snow banks giving you time to flee.. everyone talking about the weather non-stop, never leaving my building on campus, snot dripping down my nose constantly and my eyes freezing shut, not being able to talk properly, and understanding more and more why people turn to booze so quickly here.

2. Autumn is basically Spring, but without flowers, the rain is usually ice cold and there is no promise of summer.

3. Around here Autumn means that sunset will now approach 4:30 pm. This is the worst thing ever. Worse than trudging through 3 feet of snow. Worse than hearing, "Boy, it's a cold one today, dontcha know" for the billionth time. Worse than being hit by an improperly formed snowball.. or an iceball as we call them. Not being able to see coupled with all the rest of this nonsense is the real kicker.

Oh there is one more positive about the onset of Autumn: the better movies of the year finally start coming out.

P.S. I started typing this thing out this morning (about 10am CST).. soo busy.. did I really accomplish anything today? No, but I sure am hungry.

Weather swings in autumn are a bitch though.

Yesteday for example:

High 72
Low 36

High is about 62 today
Low is going to be in the upper 20s tonight

Michigan rocks in the fall. Autumn is the best season hands down, and October is the best month. As someone else said, the trees and nature in this state are beautiful in the fall.

the fall kicks ass. Especially after the hotass summer (hell its STILL hitting 90 fucking degrees out here), im ready for some cool breezes, WIND! and even a little rain.
