Astro Bot
Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH

TLOU PII Remastered
Tekken 8
Infinite Wealth
Dragons Dogma 2
Animal Well
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

And Cod BO 6, Splitterhead, Life is Strange Double Exposure and Lego Horizon are on their way.

How is this year considered bad and not one of the best year gaming? I baffled by the narrative of there is nothing to play. Like, how? Aspecially on ps5. I cant even keep up with whats coming.

There are a lot of complaints about this generation but i dont know gaf, this gen may be mine fav in the end.

What do you guys think?

Simple answer is……

And there is no fixing that….nothing will make them happy but why should I care? It’s too bad for them.

What about Concord?

(But seriously, maybe it's because there has been some high profile bombs this year also? And lots of bad games in general. Maybe that skews peoples perception?)

Edit: also, not an amazing year if you are an Xbox fan

I have always wondered what's with the average gaming consumer's obsession to constantly compare years like they need to justify the releases and then tell people about it? Do people do this on movie and books forums too? Some weird inferiority complex going on.

There are plenty of games to have reasons to like on that list and equally plenty of games to not have reasons to like. Seems just like any other year.

It’s the blockbusters from Sony missing. If it’s a year with a Spider-Man marvel slop or a God of War spin-off for some it’s automatically amazing. Everything else is a sub-par year.

This was a fantastic year for the more out of field titles with less motion capture. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Depends on the games you like and play, none of those are my type of games, i prefer Fallout or TES games, Bioshock's and Dishonored and the older better Assassin Creed games etc, and they either are not being made quickly or just not being made at all, i don't think it's been a good year personally but that's just my opinion based on my gaming choices, best game i've played the most by far this year is a free mod called Fallout London!.

A lot of good to very good games, but zero generational games. There is no Baldurs Gate, GOW, Elden Ring, Zelda ect. Its pretty much all smaller AAA games

2025 has 6-7 games that are bigger than anything that came out this year, other than COD and sports games

GTA 6
Resident Evil 9
Death Stranding 2
Fable
Doom
Kingdom Come 2
Monster Hunter Wilds
Mafia 4
Borderlands 4
Assassins Creed
Marathon

And that is just what we know

2024 is extremely light on big budget AAA games

Aren’t there high profile bombs every year?
About xbox, I don’t know. I sold my series console last year so at this point i honestly can not comprehend why anyone would play on xbox exclusively

Helldivers 2 and Astrobot. Rest of the list is pretty meh.
Yo, you have get in on silent hill 2, dragons Dogma 2 and Shadow of the Erdtree. Some of the finest games ever made

I don't know, I find maybe 2-3 games from that list interesting. Almost none of the games made me think about them as a GOTY contender, maybe except for Astro Bot.

just because you made a list doesn't mean it's a good year. You could actually make a list of every year, quantity doesn't equal quality.

a good year would have 2 absolutely incredible games and nothing else.

there are some standout titles there, but there is also nothing new or interesting, nothing that we will look back on and say "wow, that game changed things" or "wow, we'll never get another experience like that again".

gamers need to move past this idea that bigger number means better.

Some of the “incredible” games bore me and burn me out. BG3 and TOTK, for instance. Now what?

I can easily trade these for I don’t know Alone in the Dark and Tekken 8.

but see i don't personally consider those games incredible either.

either way, having lots of mediocrity doesn't now equal the best year in gaming evah. I bet most people haven't bought or played 70% if even, of the OPs list.

The netflix approach isn't the right one, I'm a bit bored of being inundated with generic slop.

It’s just the media - they want you to stop playing games and listen to them. It doesn’t do much good if they are telling you the games are great at the moment. Frankly, we have never had it so good.
totally makes sense when u put it this way

also - they are responsible in a a big way for the shitification of the writing in enternainment

Depends on what kinda games you like to play I guess. For me it was possibly the worst year in gaming EVER.

The only new games I bought so far were Alone in the Dark (was ok), Space Marine 2 (was great) and Silent Hill 2 (is great as well). Also played Hellblade on GP but that one was meh…

Also plan to get Astrobot down the line but that’s about it then…

What a horrible year…

Disagree

gamers need to move past this idea that everything needs to be genre defining and/or ground breaking.

I just find it weird that every year around this time people feel the need to "list up" and defend a year of all things lol.

Disagree

I'm willing to move into that if developers are willing to drop their prices to $30 a game and manufacturers drop the price of Hardware significantly.

Games use to impress, they use to be unique, playing Batman Arkham Asylum was truly unique meanwhile you had AC2 literally inventing the common Open world trope, Uncharted 2 defining what it means to be a big budget action adventure and borderlands reinvigorating the looter genre with an fps looter shooter. Why can't we go back to that?

now it is just, oh look another open world where you collect 60 things, oh look another soul like, oh look another Chinese game using UE5 and looks shiny.

I just don't see how you find entertainment in doing the same thing over and over and over.

But the modern gamer is the fortnite gamer so i know I'm out of the loop. People just want the same thing as long as it has the new graphics.
