I am upto around episode 13 and it's pretty amazing.

Right before he fights his father....and gets bit by his mother. Poor kid, has no love from his parents.

That's the biggest 13 year old I have seen....and his friend Hanamya, is a monster at 15.

And ofcourse his father is a freakin maniac.

Really enjoying this anime at the moment.

What did you guys think of it?

Sweet didn't know there was a season 2.

I love his training, spoiler below:

His training is sick. The way he built up his concentration. By jumping off the cliff!!! Concentration of Death. "He needs to cross that line" as his mom would say

I don't want to ruin anything, but I think I saw a movie that was composed of a few episodes. Anyway, it had one of the sickest fights I've ever seen.
Some dude pulls Baki's optical nerve out fromthe right side of his neck and snaps it! Ugh, gross! I twitched when I saw that. Then as he's grabbing he left eye's, he somehow gets free and wins.
He eventually beats him and magically heals, but damn! ugh, so sick. Like, Fist of the North Star levels of gore right there.

Me, me, me, the fights are awesome. The story is a dumb as shit and they never seem to die because they're martial artists but the fights are so fun.
I really hope either the second and third manga series gets an anime or the current team translating the manga doesn't drop it.

:lol

Didn't read you spoilers..but your right, everyone is pretty much invincible. Nerve damage is magically repaired....12 hour warm-ups....and 100s of kicks to the face but no blood ofcourse :lol .

hey, what's an ova? and yeah, i saw the movie or whatever that with the uhhhh, neck thing back in 8th grade, about 10 years ago!

The first season of the TV series is great. The 2nd season does get a little dull after a while though.

Very mild spoiler about the 2nd season's plot coming up:
They pretty much throw the plot out of the window and focus on a tournament, making it almost 100% fighting.

The events on the OVA take place again in the TV series' timeline and are retold, but I can't remember what season. They leave some bits out, and the OVA character designs are more true to the manga, so it's worth checking out too.

The OVA was based on the first volume of the manga, I think somewhere during the manga the author went to into flashback mode or retold everything because later volumes stories don't add up.

Isn't there actually 2 different LOOOOONG running manga series?

The original with black hair, scars, happy Baki and the newer red hair, pretty boy, ornery Baki?

I've only read the bit of the black hair Baki manga that was translated and released here by Gutsoon/Raijin before they kicked the bucket. So it's not out of the question that the manga did retell it in the 2nd series and that the TV series is based on that version while the OVA wasn't.

The one that was translated by the awesome Raijin company, they also did the HnK Master Edition, had 42 volumes. The first and second anime season cover all that and in the later volumes you see the prettier red-haired Baki on the manga that is why I think the author retold everything.
Then there's a second manga series 22 volumes I think that is being translated now by scanlators and a third ongoing series that is suposed to be final one and features characters like Che Guevara in prison.

Yes I saw both seasons and I heard they are doing season three, or the manga at least. I have seen only two chapters of the new manga and its insane compared to the previous seasons. But Grappler baki is probably the best fighting anime around along with Ippo.

Can you PM a link of who or where this is being subbed, I really enjoyed the first two seasons.

And here I thought I was the only one who like this anime.

On another note, Has any one of you seen the tengo tenje (whatever) anime. Ive heard that the manga is totally different. The anime was utter bullshit. with a fractured story and crazy echi.

Peace.

I never saw any of the Baki anime or manga yet, my friend keep saying good things about it

and I think I played a game based off Baki before, It was something Breakblow and my friend imported it.

Is that the anime...with the flashback and the evil Katana? And an obsession with over-sized boobs and perverted camera shots by the director?

That anime started off well, but once it go into the flashback....it turned...ummm strange. Could not finish the anime.

I wouldn't say it abandons the story. It's just largely restricted to the arena. You still get backstories, and Baki's main plot continues to progress. They tend to give you details that nobody ever needs to hear.
Jack Hammer's storyline about how he used to obsessively hit the heavybag, not even stopping for bathroom breaks, prefering to continue to hit the bag while standing in his own waste. That stuff just kills any sympathy I might have ever had for Jack.

I just got the part where Baki is entering the Arena for his first fight. I am really excited and anticipating the fight.

"He has the scent" :D

I love it!

I might be off but I never got the concept. I remember seeing the trailers when I rented eps. of Kenshin. So the guy had muscles in places most people didn't have places, he was doing like 300 pushups and 5,000 squat-thrusts . . . and all of a sudden
he went out and started fighting demons
? I'm not sure what arc that was but I found that funny somehow. Poorly put together trailers FTL :(.

Working my way through season 2 right now, this is great stuff. The movie you guys are referencing is
an episode in season 2, and the fight is still as brutal
. But this is easily one of the most manliest animes I've seen. I mean, cleaning out a wound by igniting gun powder doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'll be damned if it doesn't cool.

Baki never fights demons. A big ape, yes.

Yeah, there is a story behind the ape. No demons though.

But his father acts like one...that man is scary.

All I remember is I loved the ending for its refrain... "kitto kyou mo subarashii..." <3<3

Thanks for the reminder... now I'm gonna go cuckoo trying to remember it and eventually try and find a copy... >:(

I hated the OVA but I loved the TV series. The second season is my favorite section as it's one big fleshed out tournament and just about every fight is excellent. Many times I actually found myself more interested in the secondary character's fights than Baki's. On top of it all they managed to sneak the Ultimate Warrior into the tournament.

Is the OVA something you watch before or after the series...or does it just depend?
