Baskets is a black comedy series created by Zach Galifianakis, Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel (Tim & Eric, Portlandia). Galifianakis plays Chip Baskets, who, after failing clown school in Paris, instead becomes a local rodeo clown in Bakersfield, California. The rest of the cast features Galifianakis (again) as his own twin brother Dale, Martha Kelly as Martha, the only person who can put up with being Chip's friend, and Louie Anderson as Christine Baskets, Chip and Dale's mother.

It's difficult to describe what makes this show so good. It's simultaneously absurd, deadpan and depressing, but it delivers those elements with a lot of heart and honesty. On top of that you get a deceptively amazing cast, fantastic performances (Louie Anderson won an Emmy for his performance), and beautiful cinematography. FX/FXX are killing it right now.

Baskets airs Thursdays on FX at 10/9C , and the Season 2 premiere is on Jan. 19th.

Here's a Season 2 Promo!

Wow, had no idea Louie Anderson won an Emmy. Well deserved though. Mama Baskets is an incredibly well-realized and human character despite being, well, Louie Anderson in drag.

Loved season one, glad this is back. Smart, painful, funny and subtle all at once. I'm not familiar with Louie Anderson but recently caught him flipping burgers in Coming to America. Genuine holy shit moment :)

No one? Second episode went out last night, slightly middle of the road for me, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Saw the Morpheus thing coming a mile away, but it was a good way to close off this chapter and get the show back to its premise, while adding some extra weight to the story.

I thought it was good. I too saw Morpheus' death coming from a mile away but still thought it was an effective scene.

Also, I loved the bit with Mama Baskets and the TV dog.

I shot people I like more for less.
I thought it was decent. I liked the use of the flashbacks. Thought Morpheus' death was clearly telegraphed but I was fine with it.

Great episode. One of the things that impresses me the most is how often I forget that Zach is playing two roles. In a lesser show something like that could end up being too silly, or look cheap, but they make it seem believable and engaging, even though it's completely ridiculous.

I love this show so much. Louie Anderson is incredible.

Yep, he is amazing in this. He totally just disappears into the role somehow. I completely buy him as a woman and a mother.

I thought the season started very strong. While the last couple episodes have been very entertaining and have done some good character building, it's starting to feel like the over-arching narrative has lost some thrust. Chip needs to get back to clowning, damn it.

lol @ Chip telling Martha to go into the woods at night to find some scary clowns

EDIT: omg the dog from American Horror Story!!!

The last two episodes were both great.

"Martha Brooks...I Googled her, didn't find anything."
"Yeah, that's her."

This show is so wonderful - I don't know how they do it, but they somehow manage to perfectly balance poignancy with humor every single week.

EDIT: The ending with Martha! LMAO

That's great news, I was getting a bit worried. Also a good episode this week, even though the dj thing in the middle made no sense, it had some great moments.

"Hey, what's up, I'm looking for Noodles"

"Noodles?"

"Yeah"

"You looking for a class? We have classes here. We have a spaghetti class..."

LOL

EDIT: That was a great episode.

One of the best of the whole series I'd say. So much great stuff. Arby's, the whole yard sale, Dale with his gun, Christine dropping some truth bombs on her brother + the bank scene.

Caught up on the last three or so. Seriously cracked up when the grandmother died at the casino.

And Dale with the gun was too good lol.

This thread hasn't been getting much action, but I'm really liking this show. And it was just renewed for a season 3!

Never even expected it to get a second season so that's awesome. Glad FX is giving shows like this and Man Seeking Woman a chance. They may not have huge ratings but they are damn good shows that deserve a chance. Baskets is easily one of my favorite shows right now. besides being hilarious this show got some real heart.

This show always puts a smile on my face in a way no other show does. It's a constant low-key delight. The ending suggests this is the end between
Mrs. Baskets and Ken
, which is too bad – really liked his addition to the cast – but I suppose the
purchase of the rodeo
will give plentry room for other fun characters.

Don't imagine this show ever gaining a huge audience, but that's fine. I would be satisfied with three seasons.

Edit: Also: We need more Penelope in season 3, dammit.
