Battalion Wars new videos - IGN

http://cube.ign.com/articles/646/646959p1.html

The title seemed unpolished in previous play tests, but the build we've been playing for the last week is dramatically improved in just about every regard. The end result is an experience that is nothing short of addictive. GameCube owners take note: this game has sleeper written all over it.

Battalion Wars is shaping up to be a must-have GameCube title and today's videos show why.

Videos: http://media.cube.ign.com/media/676/676364/vids_1.html

The game looks real good from the videos. Pretty smooth framerate to boot too.

It looks like they sped up the really slow, floaty running speed from the old videos. This game looks REALLY cool.

This game screams multiplayer, but I bet they didn't do it because they couldn't get anything playing good with split screen. What it really needs is online. Hopefully this game does well enough that it gets an online enabled Revolution version.

It will be mine, on release day. Love the grass and draw distance. I agree with Zaxxon, this could be a great online title(sequel) for the Revolution. I wish they could add online functionality that can be unlocked when played on the Rev.

yeah, this will be mine on release day as well. it looks good.

i have a fear that its going to be either too short or too simplistic, though. just my paranoia about titles on GC creeping in.

Even BBA play could be cool, like between you and a mate across a LAN. I guess that would have meant a whole extra mode of gameplay to implement with not many people that would have the resources to play it.

Like anthony suggested, a Revolution sequel would be awesome. :)

The 1up video preview of this didn't sound too promising, the guy talked about horrible squad AI and far too much micromanaging every little squad due to said horrid AI. Hopefully he is wrong but it sure didn't sound good.

Hmm, I just watched that video myself. Oh well, I'm not sure if I'm a real time strategy kind of guy as it is. While I like to micromanage in say a turn based strategy game, I don't think I'd be so good in a game where you have to micromanage on the fly, esp. if the units aren't very intelligent. Guess I'll wait and see how it pans outs in various reviews before I decide to purchase this title. Of course I only have Fire Emblem as a definite purchase for this fall/winter for the GC so maybe I should move outside my comfort zone. Then again I have a backlog of GC and GBA games so I suppose there's no burning need to get more games at the moment (of course assuming Sony might actually offer the PS2 at $99 this fall/winter, maybe it'd be a good time to finally try that system out). :)

This is a first day purchase for me as well. Batallion Wars has been looking better and better with every new media release. The game looks like an absolute blast. Can't wait to play.

Holy s**t!!!! Fxxking AWESOME!!!!
This game looks really fun and smooth!
Every GC owner should have this game before the Zelda coming next year. :D

im kinda glad that they decided to cut the multiplayer and use those resources on refining the single player game. i need a really fun game right about now.. this might just be it.

I think he means a new IP that distances itself from Advance Wars and doesn't draw comparisons by people who just want it to be a console clone of AW. You can already see all these new characters and nations that roughly resemble the US and Russia, nothing like AW.

Game's looking like a lot of fun. I may also get this upon release.

Wow, looks awsome.

And was I the only person suprised by there being voices, I guess I just have a preconception that any game that has something to do with Nintendo is without voice.

Hmmmmmm I am intrigued. The first few videos were underwhelming, but I watched some more and it looks great. Well, on my radar it goes. Hopefully the single-player campaign is long and diverse.

a sequel to this game has huge potential with multiplayer. especially on revolution with Nintendo's focus on wireless online play these days.

wow looks amazing really..

hadn´t counted on having to buy this..

thought Fire Emblem and Zelda would be my last cube games.. may have to get this too depending on the reviews..

with the slow running animation gone this looks awesome. Does anyone no the NA release date? I think im guna import this.

I didn't even know it was coming out this month :lol.

The reviewers might knock down the score a little for not having multiplayer, but judging from the videos, it sure looks like a keeper. Can't wait to hear more in-depth impressions from IGN tomorrow too.

this looks very good!

it could fall into 'great nintendo collaborations', like [snes] starfox with argonaut and pilotwings 64 with pardigm.
