Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon - Announcement Trailer

Turn back the pages of the Umbra Witch's story to learn where it all began. Take control of Cereza and her first demon Cheshire to fend off faeries and solve puzzles when Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon releases March 17, 2023 only on Nintendo Switch.

From the store page, it appears you control Cereza with the left joycon, and Cheshire with the right joycon. I'm interested to see an action game where you control two characters at once. It's also a full price release, so it should be a substantial game.

Huh really interesting. it seems Platinum Games are really focusing on controlling two characters after Astral Chain.

I can't be the only one who thought this wasn't even Bayonetta and a totally unrelated game? While watching it I thought to myself; what was the teaser of Bayonetta Origins for?

They're trying something different but it'll be a pass for me. Bayo 3 already runs like ass on Switch and I put it on hold in the hopes that they're going to re-release it for whatever next-gen system they come up with.

Love all three bayonettas but this is not appealing and even a little off-putting for some reason, probably the music. For me a demo is the only possibility for buying.

Also was curious if anyone thought this was a paid advertisement during the game awards? I mean they're all paid ads but this announcement seemed like Jeff wasn't enthusiastic and didn't add any personal commentary. Kind of like they just wedged the announcement between other award info.

Ah, so this is the spin-off Hellena was referring to. When she asked us to boycott any future spin-offs, I felt it was some potential spinoff starring the other characters, but no, I think she had knowledge of this and knew it would release soon enough and wanted to strangle it in it's crib before launch.

As for the game itself, sure why not. I hope it finds it's audience, I can't imagine it'll appeal to the Bayo core audience, but I don't think that's the target demo.

Bayonetta 3 had a secret chapter that is just like this game, clearly a taste/teaser for this project.
Wow, guess I missed that.

I definitely plan on replaying it a few times though. Just have to get caught up on this holiday rush of games first. One completion for now.

Personally, prefer this art style much more than the realistic stuff which don't look good and the enemy designs which really don't jive with me.

here's the secret chapter in B3:

I am really curious when this releases to see the cost justified. When I watched the announcement trailer I thought it looked like a good $20 game.
It's releasing in less than 4 months, middle of March. I would wait to see more, we need to see why this is full price, because from that trailer it looked like the NMH spin off.

We played Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, for the first time – and we were incredibly impressed at how it's unique control-two-characters-at-the-same-time (one with each Joy-Con) awesomely subverted our expectations for what a Bayonetta spinoff game could be. Previewed by Luke Winkie.

It does seem like the control is weird, though I still don't understand how this is a $60 game. It looks so indie. Hi Fi Rush is 40 I think. I haven't seen enough meat on this bone yet.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon reviewed by Michael Higham on Nintendo Switch.

This spin-off is an absolute joy through and through. From its impressive, fantastical story moments full of childlike charm to its clever platforming puzzles and satisfying battles, this is a superb action-adventure where every piece comes together to create a wondrous playable storybook. Its dual-character concept doesn't evolve that much once you get the hang of it, and its conclusion could have done a bit more to leave a lasting impact. But it's a journey you'll cherish all the same, and one that's been brought to life through a beautiful art style, stellar voice performances, and an outstanding soundtrack.
