Best Intro of ALL TIME

Plus for those who say 'WTF MM A GOOD INTRO?!11' you also have to consider that the game is, after all, out of date. Obviously it's not going to stack up to current gen games.

But I think thats the point, a good intro should be able to pass the test of time, and to me I don't think MM does that very well.

Exactly.

A lot of games in this thread are older titles, afterall. The intros in games such as Metal Gear Solid and Vagrant Story still hold up beautifully...and they were rendered on weaker hardware.

Well it's just opinion after all. I don't think everything mentioned here is a good intro either. MM was just one of my choices.

There were good intros back in the 16 bit days, so I guess they should count then? A good intro doesn't neccisery mean = good graphics. FFIV and FFVI had good intros, and Ninja Gaiden 1, 2 and 3 for nes were pretty good btw.

No, it doesn't. That's why I mentioned MGS. The original game look really ugly by today's standards, but the actual direction is still extremely good.

dark, upon entering the thread you should have read:

Best Intro of ALL TIME #1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is it for you guys?

It's opinion. People can like an intro for any number of reasons. Why is this so hard for you to grasp?

I don't even care about MM, I'm not really even talking about that anymore...

It just so happens that MM lead up to the current discussion arc.

People are still discussing about MM's intro? MM is my favorite Zelda, but what intro?

Dynasty Warriors 2.

Zhou Yu playing the flute on still waters, then he throws it upwards...
...and as it reaches its apex...
A BILLION FIRE ARROWS COME RAINING DOWN
AND THE HARD ROCK GUITARS KICK IN
THE FLEET BURNS
ZHAO YUN CHARGES AN ARMY ON HORSEBACK WHILE HOLDING LIU BEI'S INFANT SON
THEN CAO CAO STANDS ATOP A HILL AND EVERY FUCKING MAN IN CHINA IS STANDING BEHIND HIM
<some dumb crap with a girl, but it doesn't last long>
MORE GUITAR! GNGNGNGNGNGNGGNGNGGNGNGNGNG
LU BU DUELS GUAN YU ON HORSEBACK IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE ARMY
ARGRGHRGHRGHRGHH WANNA HIT PEOPLE NOW

It doesn't get any more badass than that.

Yes and let's not forget that everyone else who disagrees with your opinion is also a view that's meaningless and/or wrong in your eyes.

Well yes. I am, after all, Amir0x. But, hey, at least I actually play games!

But since all you enjoy is trying to instigate fights with people on this forum, as others have noted, I'll try to ignore your attempts to troll.

Good on ya, mate.

Doesn't quite make it the best intro of all time then, does it?

If we're talking about before hitting the start button then Majora's Mask wasn't too special. But the introduction to the game (including the first three days) is truly a class of it's own. I LOVE how they throw you into the game with such drama and urgency then completely flip you upside the head with such a unique gameplay mechanic. If you went in without any notions of what MM was about (like me), it was phenomenal. I think a lot of people here already knew about the time travel though before playing.

FFVIII and MGS2... I hope someday we will be able to count the FFVII at E3 into this
um, what? It was basically the same intro you saw back in 1997, except this time it wasn't FMV (well, things did look crisper, but still, does that make the intro THAT much better?)

Shenmue
MGS2
Ninja Gaiden 1 ( for back then )
Katamari Damacy

Final Fantasy VIII :D

I agree completely. The way the music builds up, and it shows Link clinging to the mast of his ship amidst the storm and then waking up on the beach. Excellent intro into what can only be described as an amazing game. I may actually replay through this. The cartridge is sitting in front of me, mocking me as I type this.

Dude, it looks a trillion(estimated number) times better.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOAAAAA...

Hold on there. Have you seen the original intro again? The PS3 tech demo was considerably more detailed and rendered at 60 fps. The tech demo was done in the style of Advent Children (the CG film). The original intro is not even remotely near the same quality.

Rebel Strike and Rogue Leader both had very nice intros.

I supppose half of debate comes from the kind of gamer you are -- folks who favor "realism" in games will prefer intros that mimic movies or movie trailers; folks who prefer "games being games" (or whatever you want to call it) would probably prefer other kinds of intros.

Personally, I think Factor 5's intros for RS and RL are the best that I've seen -- dramatic? Nope. But very entertaining and watchable -- even for folks who don't play games.
