Best setting for GTA?

For me, it's really USA, preferably modern era.

I guess it can go all the way to the 90s, but I really love all that smartphone, flat screen sweetness, modern vehicles, overall just the feel of era we live in.

Other thank that, as European who was never in USA, but saw many, many Hollywood movies, I just think it's a beatiful country, gigantic buildings, and skyscrapers, traffic, wide streets, wilderness, countryside, humour, great music, cinema, drama, crime, law and order, social media, and so in...

Glad that GTA6 won't be somewhere else.

USA of course, disagree on modern era.
The Warriors, Vice City, San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2.
Rockstar are at their best when they're doing period pieces, when the first rumours about Project Americas came out and it was supposed to be a game set throughout several decades I was absolutely chuffed, I can only dream what they were envisioning.
But even for them the scope was probably too big so they changed focus to a more realistic game which goes in hand with what Schreier has said about the project.

It has to be the US really, maybe london again.
But the states are just such a huge melting pot of people, cultures, locations and lunatics, all with access to technology and guns it cant be beaten as a location for a game like GTA to satire so much that the rest of the world just "gets" it.

I think there is a time period with neon signs in metropolises in the 1950s that could work well.

As far as previous locations are concerned, Las Venturas has the most unrealized potential.

I think sticking with USA is best.

Era wise it's a tough choice because they haven't done a variety of eras at the same "tier" beyond maybe 3, VC, and SA.

The USA, because it has always been a total fever dream and still is today.

Also the 90s, because this era is modern, but not inundated with modern technology.

Anything but modern era for me. I actually hate seeing smartphones in particular, in video games and movies. I guess I want to escape our every day-reality.

UK would be great because that's where they're from and they could absolutely rip our government apart, but Muricans wouldn't buy it

GTA can only be set in the USA.

The country were you are free to walk down the street with an automatic weapon, if that's allowed, think of everything below that line that's legal.

Mix the above with the entertainment culture, greed is good, 10,000 different communities and cultures.

Miami in the '80s - that is, Vice City - is still my favorite. The gross excess of the period and especially the music make a great aesthetic. The more modern, grungier stuff hasn't hit me the same way. Part of my falling out with GTA for sure has to do with the move away from the arcadey feel, but no Rockstar game since Vice City has appealed to me aesthetically as much as Vice City either.

GTA4 was the best setting.

Liberty City - 2008.

Right before smartphones and social media ruined everything.

It won't happen, but I hope the next Liberty City game returns to that time.

Same here, I would love a UK version, you could get a few of the cities in aswell with modern tech. I think there may be a chance as there seems to be more knowledge and intrest on whats going on in the UK the last 5 years or so. Alot of people would understand the satier aimed at the UK now days where as even 10yrs ago it wouldnt make much sense to alot.

I still think they will keep it in USA though and im all good with that, I love the 3 settings of Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City but I do think its time for a new location or 1 of the sub locations to take the main stage. If I had to choose it would have to be Las Venturas, lots of crime stories to tell there.
