Heh, should turn this into one big classic rock thread...enjoyed listening to a lot of this stuff the last couple of years.

Beatles: My favourite band, and practically all their songs are great, but to narrow it down to a few: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (my #1), Girl (Anyone else like this?! Underrated I think; fantastic song), I Want You / She's So Heavy, A Day In The Life, I Am The Walrus, Michelle, She Loves You. There are also Paul's soft popular ones that everyone knows and you either love or don't - And I Love Her, Yesterday, Hey Jude, Let It Be, Long Winding Road.

Led Zeppelin: Only really know their greatest hits, but my picks are All My Love (my favourite), Black Dog, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, and Stairway To Heaven (of course).

You can't really go wrong with any Zeppelin tune except maybe "Hats off to Roy Harper" which is really weird and probably wouldn't appeal to many people. Here's my general rule of thumb when categorizing Zeppelin songs:

Anything over 5 minutes in length = classic Zeppelin tune.

That is all.

We need some older Springsteen stuff listed here! :)

I'll vote for Born To Run, of course, as others have, but I'll add Badlands, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, Hungry Heart, Johnny 99, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, It's Hard To Be a Saint in the City, Racing In The Streets, and the best Boss song of all, Thunder Road.

As for some of the newer stuff: Streets of Philadelphia, The Rising, Ghost of Tom Joad, My City of Ruins, You're Missing, Better Days, Should I Fall Behind.

Yes.

In addition: "Brilliant Disguise" (very underappreciated; my fave of his along w/ Glory Days)

For Bruce Springsteen I will go for the trio of The River, Born To Run and Thunder Road. Great songs and the lyrics are fantastic. How can so much be crammed into 5 minutes, the characters, the story, the emotions, the regrets. Thats why he is the boss.

My favourite The Who song is easily Baba O'Riley since its one of my favourite songs of all time. Substitute is great as a more poppy song and Won't Get Fooled Again is also a good listen.

I'm a huge Led Zep fan and I'm finding it difficult to think of their best but I will go for two that are probably not the most representative of their work as a whole. When The Levee Breaks could make it based solely on the drumming, esepecially at the start but also because of the images this song can magically conjure up in my mind. The second is Tangerine. One of the most beautiful songs ever created in my opinion. Both the songs best aspects are the instruments but thats why I love Led Zeppelin.

The Beatles songs I enjoy listening to most are In My Life and Here Comes The Sun but they probably aren't their best songs. A day In The Life is a very well crafted song where their brilliance is easily found.

Springsteen- Born to Run
Beatles-Across the Universe
The Who-Baba O'reilly
BB King-?
Marley-Redemption Song
Janice Joplin-Bobby Mcgee(lipstick lesbians love to sing this song at karaoke and make out with each other on stage)
Van Morrison-Brown Eyed Girl?
Zeppelin-Rock and Roll until they whored it out to that car company. Now? Going to California.

Springsteen - "For you" off of 'Greeting from Asbury Park' GO DOWNLOAD

Beatles - You know my name, look up the number

The Who- I'm partial to '905'. ( I like songs about robots)

BB King- Babe you done lost your good thing now

Marley- Redemption Song

Janice Joplin- Fuck Janice Joplin.

Van Morrison - TB Sheets

Zeppelin - Trampled Under Foot

My taste > yours. Go check these songs out

I guess I am alone in my love for the Who song 'The Seeker'. Oh well that makes me somehow better than you all!

You aren't alone. Thats a great song especially when he talks about asking Dylan and the Beatles but I can't see how it compares to the great Baba O'Riley, but I suppsoe they are two completely different styles of songs. One is a grand, epic anthem whilst the other is ... well I don't know what it is but it sure as hell is a good song. However, Baba O'Riley's originality is what makes it a winner.

The original by, shit I forget his name, was pretty fucking fantastic though.

I have the complete Beatles discography on my iPod, so lets kick that.

Songs that I couldn't do without:
Any Time At All, I'll Cry Instead, Things We Said Today, Come Together, Something, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Because, You Never Give Me Your Money ~ Her Majesty (Probably the best string of songs ever, individually they're not all so great, but its together where they really shine), Everybody's Trying to be my Baby, Help!, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Ticket to Ride, It's Only Love, I've Just Seen a Face, Yesterday, Two of Us, Across the Universe, I Me Mine, Let It Be, The Long and Winding Road, The Fool on the Hill, Flying, Blue Jay Way, I Am The Walrus, Hello Goodbye, Strawberry Fields Forever, Baby You're a Rich Man, Day Tripper, We Can Work it Out, Rain, Hey Jude, You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), Love Me Do, Taxman, Elanor Rigby, I'm Only Sleeping, Love You To, Here There and Everywhere, She Said She Said, And Your Bird Can Sing, For No One (Probably my favorite Beatles song), Tomorrow Never Knows (Best Beatles song people always forget to list), Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown), You Won't See Me, Nowhere Man, Girl, I'm Looking Through You, In My Life, If I Needed Someone, Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, Fixing a Hole, Within You Without You, Lovely Rita, A Day in the Life, Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, Wild Honey Pie, The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun (Wild Honey Pie ~ Happiness is a Warm Gun rivals the second half of Abbey Road), I'm So Tired, Blackbird, Don't Pass Me By, Julia, Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey, Helter Skelter, Savoy Truffle.

And there are some I passed on which are solid damn songs, (Penny Lane, Eight Days a Week, All You Need is Love, Paperback Writer), but that huge ass list are the songs that I absolutely adore from the Beatles.

As per albums, Abbey Road, Revolver and The White Album are my faves, and I could pass on With the Beatles and Beatles for Sale. But having all their stuff is absolutely worth it.

I feel the same way about Springsteen. I've got his entire collection, along with some bootlegs, on my mp3 player, and it's awesome to have all that music at your fingertips at any given time.

Ugh, I'm from Jersey, but I absolutely loathe that man's music. Him an Cougar Melon-fuck-me-I-suck-at-music-camp.
But this is a thread of love!
I've got all of Floyd's stuff, and eventually hope to get Rush, Bowie and Zeppelin complete.
I also got a Syd Barrett album on here, Wouldn't you Miss Me? and its weird ass shit, but great.

Hey! To each his own man. I totally understand that Springsteen is an acquired taste and that not everyone likes him. His vocals, in particular, are something you either love or hate. Pretty hard to dispute his talent as a songwriter however.

As for the Beatles, it's pretty difficult to say anything bad about them at all. Arguably the great rock band of all time with more great music then any three bands put together. You won't get any argument out of me about your selections. :)

Doesn't stop me from hating the motherfucker's music. :D
I guess its partly from the near panic-esque status my home area can get into when he had a concert coming, or anything to that extent. Radios playing his stuff constantly, people and their things. Blech.
Don't like the music. Can't deny talent, of course, but hey, you know.
