Bets on the next Hollywood Anime adaptation?

Beyond AKIRA (which already seems to be in the pipeline), which anime do you think is next up in line to be whitewashed adapted by Hollywood?

With 90s kids coming into full adulthood and having lots of spending money, I'm thinking we're not too far from a Gundam adaptation. What I'm really rooting for though is a Netflix version of:

That looks like:

And not like:

There's a Battle Angel Alita adaptation happening right now and I will be furious if
when
they fuck it up.

I've still got some hope that we'll end up getting an Evangelion movie with WETA doing effects.

Live action FMA would probably make bank.

Robotech has been kicking around as a project for many years with Toby Maguire wanting to produce and work on it. But Gundam has no real prospects as a film and was never that successful here on a grander scale than hardcore fans.

I think that given the success of Power Rangers, Sailor Moon would be a good option. A lot of non-anime fans loved this show as a kid/teen. I know my wife did.

It's coming out next summer finally and has a pretty decent cast/crew. It's a shame Lacey Chabert never got to play the role -- she really had the look down perfectly. Rosa Salazar is sort of a weird casting and I'll always be a little annoyed by her due to her character on Parenthood.

I kept hoping for an Evangelion adaptation for about 12 years now. I don't think it'll ever happen.

Battle Angel Alita is probably next, but I kept hearing rumors about Cowboy Bebop being made someday.

Vampire Hunter D starring Huge Jackedman

I thought that was basically his design for Van Helsing.

Attack on Titan

i was just about to ask if we'd heard of Hollywood going after this yet.

other shows I've seen reach beyond typical anime fans included gurren lagann (too absurd, not betting on it), madoka (don't see it happening but hollywood trying to make Madoka YA edition would be hilarious), one-punch man (maybe one day, a superhero comedy is a thing that could work), berserk (probably too R-rated).

Still betting on attack on titan or another shot at DBZ before anything else.

edit: oh right gundam exists. that'd be nuts.

There's actually a few popular animes that they could do without worrying about whitewashing issues. Trigun. Fullmetal Alchemist. Cowboy Bebop? (Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what race Spike is?)

And for some reason, I'm now imagining Vash the Stampede being played by Johnny Depp?

Considering Kaiju movies on the rise again I think someone will look at Gundam and try to adapt that under the idea of "it's close enough"

I hope it's Attack on Titan or Fullmetal Alchemist so we can have a big fight about whitewashing franchises that obviously have taken their aesthetic from European culture. But I thrive on fuckery.

Honestly? Beyond Battle Angel, I could see something like Cowboy Bebop getting adapted. It's got major clout among anime diehards and I don't think a studio would look at it and think it would be too hard to sell to a Western audience.

When we talk about "Hollywood" are we talking about the global filmmaking industry or are we talking about Hollywood CA where American movies are made for western audiences?

Fate Zero maybe? Seems easy enough.

One I'd want is Baccano, or Zoids, or Trigun.

TBH I'd take a western white washed live action adaptation over any Japanese live action adaption anytime anyday anywhere.

I see OP already covered it but

Start from the beginning.

Giant robots + space war. Whats not to love.

Wasn't there already a hugely unpopular liveaction white gundam movie?

Why would we mean anything but Hollywood if we say Hollywood? Plenty of anime are getting japanese live action adaptations that aren't being talked about here because this is about hollywood

Attack on Titan is very explicit about the races of its characters. Mikasa is the last asian on the planet.

And the main character of Fullmetal Alchemist is blonde and named "Edward". Obviously this character is white.

The cast of Attack on Titan and FMA aren't asian though. Nice try, but please leave your stupidity at the door.

Naruto is going to happen and it's going to be bad.

But I'd like to see how America would do with a show like Reborn! Or Berserk.

Slam Dunk could be an easy adaptation into a live action tv show
