Bungie, sit up and take some notes... THIS is how you finish off a satsifying arc in a game
Not even, BG&E is guilty of the same thing that Halo2 is guilty of, but in a different manner. Both are good games, but both had endings that pissed me off.
Halo2 simply didn't finish the story arc that it started, in fact it essentially loops you back to the begining. Earth is being invaded when it opens, earth is being invaded when it closes. The story arc that I bought into was essentially sidelined and preserved for the next game.
Now, technically BG&E does close up its immediete arc, because the alien (I forget what they are called) are vanquished from their base on the moon and the invasion of the planet is stopped.
However, none of the actual details pertaining to Jade are ever resolved, we still dont know where her powers comes from or even what they are, we have no idea what link she had to those aliens, and we are clueless about what "Shawnee" means. I want to know just who the hell I was playing as for the last ten hours.
So the invasion was stopped, but everything that I wanted to know
about the invasion and the central character is left wide open. And you're uncle being infected at the very end is a cliffhanger, but not one so scandelous as Halo2 since Peyj' s infection actually opens up a new new story arc while Halo2 is still back on square one.
Well, closures like these really get to me. Right now I'm starting the last book in the the Dark Tower series, but book 5's cliffhanger and book 6's essential filler and buildup did not bother me because I knew how long the series was from the start and had the next book right there. I hate getting blindsided by cliffhangers and unfinished business meant for another sequel.
