Qinetic, the defence contractor in the UK, is developing a software system that can overlay CCTV images on 3D maps, helping to track 'objects' (i.e. people or vehicles) across a town or city. It can also tag someone and automatically track them, switching between CCTV cameras as necessary.

I'm looking forward to Google Earth V2.

I hope they can extrapolate movement data, so that when the car/person is out of range of CCTV, you can have a little animated avatar moving across the map, and then you wait to see the real person pop into the next available CCTV shot.

See, then I'd get all depressed when their avatar stops moving and only shows up as a red X for a moment before vanishing.
