Not really. EA and Ubisoft can't even sustain themselves with the kind of profits these smaller titles make, let alone satisfy their shareholders. They either make multi million selling 80 dollar bangers or perish.

OP said it's a big win for gamers. Nobody said it's a big win for EA or Ubisoft.
They can tighten the belt and figure out how to make it enough. That's their third option.
Trying to think of the last Ubisoft game I cared about. Prince of Persia metrodvania and that's it for a long time.

It's not even like they are against spending 8 years working on a project.
It's like COE33, why didnt Ubisoft make that game? Because you literally cannot at Ubisoft, and the lead guy knew it from working at Ubisoft.
