You know I might have thought about this a few years ago but never followed through on checking... and unless it happened like it did this time... saw BTLC 2 days ago, Golden Child was on yesterday I would never have thought of it...

Ok so the obvious actor connections are Victor Wong Egg Shen/Kee Nang's father and James Hong Doctor Hong/David Lo Pan. However when it came to the 'fight' in the restaurant and Tommy Tong came on the screen and grimaced.. I was like... wait a damn minute I recognize that face... can it really be him? Sure enough Peter Kwong Rain/Tommy Tong.

Both movies were made in 86 BTW.

BTW Peter Kwong has recently done videogame voices in Rise to Honor and Goldeneye: Rogue Agent according to us.imdb.com(which may or may not be correct). Uncle Chu from BTLC also apparently did a voice in RtH.

Looking at us.imdb.com turns out there are a few more connections.. Al Leong an asian stuntman/actor was a minor character in BTLC and did stunt work in Golden Child. Wow looking at the list he's done stunt work in alot of stuff I've seen http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0502959/

Same thing for Bill M. Ryusaki and Vernon Rieta, minor character in BTLC(all 3 are listed as Wing Kong Hatchet Man), stunt work in GC.

Does anybody else in the world besides me care? No.. probably not.... just thought it was interesting how my mind was working....

BTW Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Tsung) is in Elektra(interesting trailer), I was initially planning on skipping this movie, but since they seem to be going through her time with The Hand... and the trailer looked visually appealing I might have to check it out.

I agree, I find it interesting when movies have trivia connections.

One of the explanations for actors appearing in movies with other actors can sometimes be explained simply because the director has actors he/she trusts and likes to work with.

Good examples of these

Wachowski Brothers : Joe Pantoliano
Coens : Bill Bob Thornton, John Turturro
Scorcese : De Niro, Pecsi
Yimou Zhang : Ziyi Zhang (rumours of more than friendship on that side tho)

I'm sure there are others, as well as other reasons for connections.

Interesting trivia with respect to BTLC and Golden Child is that John Carpenter (director of BTLC) was offered the directors role for Golden Child, but turned it down due to BTLC :D

There is also supposed to be a storyline connection between Big Trouble in Little Chine and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Fourth Dimension, at least in the novelisation.

Really? <google search>

I'll be damned:

2.21 Is there a relationship between Big Trouble in Little China and Buckaroo Banzai?

Yes, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension (1984) was directed by W.D. Richter, who wrote the screenplay to Big Trouble in Little China (1986). If you watch the end of Buckaroo Banzai, the film mentions a potential sequel called "Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League." Supposedly, Richter was writing this Banzai sequel and, under John Carpenter's direction, it eventually morphed into Big Trouble in Little China.

Ah, but the plot thickens. In 1996, a BB fan named Ernest Cline wrote a professional screenplay of "World Crime League" which almost made it big time. Corona Films gives the details of his endeavor at http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/banzai2.html

Most interestingly, his script has several scenes with none other than wise-cracking, truck-driving Jack Burton! For legal reasons, I can't post the whole script, but here's the first scene with Jack:

So the same person Richter wrote both pieces.
