Binary Domain JP Story Trailer (voice acting)

I had no interest in this when it was first shown, but this looks AWESOME. I don't know what happened in the last 6 months, but everything I've seen of this game lately is fantastic.

I'm kinda hoping that Nagoshi does a little more with the game than just make a TPS. Hopefully the game has some exploration and side questing of some sort.

It probably won't, considering the urgency of the plot, but it would be cool to see some Yakuza injected into the game!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That JP story trailer was.....holy shit I need this NOW. Binary Domain is still GOTY'12. Most wanted game, EASILY. The Yakuza team is so hot right now! HYPE! HYPE! HYPE! HYPE! HYPE! HYPE!!!!!!!!!

The game's really starting to grow on me. I didn't like it at first and was especially concerned about the gameplay, but it seems pretty fine going by the weapons trailer and the e3 feedback.

Race to the bargain bin!

What does Japanese development try next when the Japanese style cover shooter, Vanquish, and the western cloning gameplay one, Binary Domain, both bomba?

Hopefully back to just doing what they feel like as was the case PS2 era and back. Not going to happen though as if there were any lessons to be learned I like to think they would have been by now.

Don't worry. They'll include a demo for Yakuza 5 in it and the Japanese market will buy it

Setting is an high-tech future Tokyo. Man vs. machine problematic. Some single aspects kinda give a GitS vibe.

vs.

Probably a very generic TPS. Story&characters maybe too cheesy.

I'm conflicted because of this but I'll keep my eye on it.

These efforts just seem inherently unappealing to mainstream western audiences. I see no remedy to the situation.

This won't even be a sales contender without a massive tech upgrade and marketing budget increase, neither of which is going to happen.

Is this a first step in a long road to commercially successful, western adopted, japanese cover shooters? Seems like a stretch.

No, mainstream Japanese shooters are never going to happen for so many very, very good and easy to understand reasons that it is a wonder there is any doubt in place at all. Best thing for Japanese devs to do is realize that the market for their games has not grown since the PS2 era where they were happy with single million copy sales and try to make games that exist in the sub million units sold area. For examples of how look no further than Vanquish, Bayonetta, Demon's Souls, anything by Atlus. Also generally stay far, far away from genres that the western devs are dominating like shooters. Just because Gears sells 5 million copies does not mean Binary Domain, or Quantum Theory or Inversion have a snowball's chance in hell to it after.

The type of gamers who buy up millions of copies of those types of games only pay attention to the ones with the most lavish marketing campaigns aimed directly at hem. These gamers are never going to give Japanese games the time of the day and the guys, like me, who don't need to be marketed to are not really begging the Japanese for those types of games to begin with, I want stuff I cannot get from anywhere else. It would serve them well to try and wrap their heads around this fact.

You know, I cannot believe that it is so hard to make an effort to know your core audience, it would serve Japanese executives and managers who green light projects to have a more detailed view of the market than a cursory superficial look at the west as the region where only the 5+ million selling genres are worth pursuing.
