Hey bizos

Its my birfday today (yay me!) and my parents are aasking what I want and was wondering wht kind of iPods are decent to get. I dont know anything about them but i would like to use it to go jogging/work out as well as to listen to on the way to class. if anyone wants to add some info or point me to a source of information I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Teh Hamburglar

if your doing alot of working out i wouldnt recommend a hard drive based mp3 player. other than that just get the 20 gig ipod new generation of course. all are good choices though, except the photo

If you're just using it for jogging/driving around--get an Ipod Shuffle and a cheap tape deck adaptor for th' car. 1 gig (which is $129) will hold ~240 songs.

A lot. :)

I have a 20 gigger and it currently has 2,874 still with room for more (which is probably more than enough for me since I haven't even listened to them all).

I recommend something that isn't an iPod.

Look up info on iAudio X5. You can find a lot here www.iaudiophile.net

Depends on what bitrate. With a 192 kbps VBR you could fit several thousand. I just suggest trying other options before you suddenly decide on an iPod. If you haven't been exposed to the scroll wheel which is the only feature iPod touts over all other HD MP3 Players you won't miss it... at all... if you buy a better quality player such as an iRiver, iAudio, Rio Karma/Carbon, ect. ect.

iAudio and Rio have the best sound quality of all the DAPs. Rio is the only player with true gapless. iAudio has a millisecond of a gap between songs so it comes in second in that regard. iAudio and iRiver H3** (which got discontinued, good luck on eBay) both have video support, voice recording support, line in recording, FM recording, and the iAudio has a feature that lets you have a TIVO like function for the FM radio which is useful for recording radioshows when you're away from the dap or not awake. iAudio and iRiver also have a picture viewing mode and a text viewer. The iAudio has a USB on the go function that allows you to connect to a camera or other device such as a PSP, iRiver, other DAPS, ect to the player and exchange files on the fly.

Best of all, the iAudio X5L has a 35 hour battery life with all the EQ turned off. The iAudio also has fantastic EQ settings.

For a moment there I thought you said Barfday. How appropirate.

Can we have a bigger pic and more specs please, I didn't quite get the message!

I'm sorry, but the 'anything but iPod' brigade really amuse me. It's like an alarm goes off anytime someone considers buying one.

He said he wants an iPod people. Quit trying to validate your purchases by recommending what you bought in an attempt to be non-conformists.
There's ntohing wrong with the iPod.

:lol I think the funniest part is how they completely ignore what he wants it for, they just see 'iPod' and see their opportunity to strike.

"I need it for jogging"
"Oh, then you DEFINITELY want an Archos, you can watch moooooovies!"

Anyway, it sounds like you'd be better off with one of the iPod minis, there's a 4 gigabyte one and a 6 gigabyte one, 4G is a little bit less than 1000 songs, I think, and that's a bit more than 60 or so albums.
It's still a HD based player, so there's a small chance that it'll fuck out eventually if you're really active with it, but I doubt it, unless you're listening to single songs that are like, an hour long. And the mini is the only one that is small enough yet still retains functionality, unlike the Shuffle which is a complete piece of shit. I've got a 30G Photo and it's really good, but it's heavy so I do notice it when I'm using a ladder or something around the studio, so I doubt it'd be very good for jogging.

You're probably just fine with a 4GB iPod mini (that's what I have and it's more than enough for me). If you happen to be a student, you can get one for $20 less at Apple's site.

*thumbs up*

Also, nitpicking over sound quality on mp3 devices using earphones is a tad pointless.
