I woke up early this morning to the sound of loud tejano music. I look outside and what do I see? Somebody painting my neighbors house and blaring the radio...
... at 6:45!

I know they are going to be here for a few days...
If this keeps up and they refuse to turn it down, can I call the police on them for disturbing the peace? Or do I have to simply mind my business?

It seems every time I take a sick day from work, these assholes are outside my window at 8 am, trimmin' hedges and blastin' music. I agree that it is a menace that needs to stop.

Well I think that about sums it up.

Yeah, you could probably call the police, but what do you think they'll do. There's real crime to fight and doughnuts to be eaten. Your only real option is to obtain a late-80's Ford Ranger with monster tires, a 10,000 Watt system, and the words 'Sex Mobile' in giant green neon letters on both sides. Then blare the local country station (and being in the Houston area, you know there's plenty) as loud as possible to counteract him.

Normally I'd feel bad... but since it's you oli... I'm all for it... let the music play!

Why not simply walk out there (outside your hideo...I mean house) and ask them politely if it would be ok to turn the volume down during the morning hours? I mean, maybe they could actually be understanding people?

Thats what I plan to do tomorrow morning if they blare it.
If they say no, then I'm going to politely call the police.

Why do this when you can actually take pictures of them, and post them and whine about them on an Internet forum, really?

65 db is max acceptable for daytime hours. You'd have to inquire with authorities whether daytime starts at 7 or 6 for your city.

And why would you consider calling the cops before thinking of simply talking to your neighbor. I'd say mind your own business though... most people are getting up and starting the day at that time.

Yeah, taking a picture was awfully important for this thread. I hope you show the picture for the police as well, olimario. Seeing as you needed to show it to all of us. ;)

throw some rocks at his ladder & take more pictures.

And then place some Pikmin figures around his body and take some more. Whoo!

Whenever my neighbors had the indecency to do that (blast their TV or stereo) I would take my two very large speakers and put then flush against the wall connecting my apartment to theirs, then I would play Meshuggah, Pantera, Emperor, or some other extremely heavy band at full volume. That solved the problem in a hurry.

Well that's not very nice. What did I ever do to you?

Breathe with regularity.

Ok that was half-hearted I find your threads incredibly funny in and damn that's pitiful kinda way. Keep it up.

Great movie.. never saw the Christopher Reeves remake though....

I asked why you would "consider" calling the cops first... which I believe is what you did by pondering if you should call the cops... my post was only in response to your initial post, so I didn't see later when you said you were going to ask them to turn it down first.

Not to derail the thread but... I was at work someone update me what's the deal with Oli's new tag? WTF?

Oh yeah and Oli have your nuts dropped yet? If so go over and talk to them like a MAN if not by all means call the police

I see this as an excellent way to segue into a discussion with your neighbor about his cheatin' ways, and how you have proof.

I have always had every intention to go over and speak with them...
My question was 'if they refuse and I do call the cops, would they do anything'... or would I be calling them in vain?

If they do nothing, I'll go over and turn down the radio... or maybe lend him my walkman.

you can either move away from Houston or..........

counter his music by going to his house at 5am and blast some underground rap

I think I'll follow him home tonight to do just that.

I remember one time in October, these guys were working on my apartment building outside on those lifts (forget what they're called, if anything). I was going for my morning run and they were about 3 or 4 floors up. So I exit the building and start running towards the park when one of them calls to me in a spanish accent: "Hey man, why don't you take a taxi?"

Luckily, I live in a Russian neighbourhood and just yelled back "Shtoh?" (ie. "what?") and put my arms up like I had no idea what the hell they were saying. They got a good laugh out of it, but I still don't really understand why it was so funny.

As for music playing loudly, I used to blast my music every friday morning around 9:30 in res when I got back from my 8:30 calc class. Why? Because I was bitter that everyone went out for "pub" night (I prefer to call it club night) on thursday and kept me up till 2 or 3 every week. Christ, one time I had a chair thrown at my door by some drunk asshole at around 4 am when I had a test the next day.

And this is why I live in an apartment now.

I meant speak to your neighbor rather than the workers. I think that'd be more appropiate.

As long as you don't stand in the sidewalk and scream "Hey Jose, turn that fucking music down before I shove a sombrero up your ass" at him, I think the guy will politely lower the volume. If he refuses and gives you the old "I have the right to listen to my music" line like my neightbors usually do, then you simply call the cops.

"I was told i could listen at a reasonable volume..."

I had some neighbors that decided one night to have a fuckin hoe down inside their house, and they were blasting some country music. I countered them with Rodney O & Joe Cooley's "Everlasting Bass" followed by some Thomas Dolby ("SCIENCE!").

I figured I was a winner both ways. If they didn't turn the music down, I at least knew they were feeling it. However, their squaredance was cut short and they turned their music down.

Some days I wish I just had a directional EMP blast weapon. The next time I see a tore-up LTD driving down the road banging out some awful bass, I just point, fire, and witness the hilarity.

Ah, Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science

In the original album version, the long version (as opposed to the single), there is a sudden sound effect that freaks you out by surprise, and it catched me everytime. :lol

When I was at a friends' appartment, it was like 2 am, we were watching movies very quietly, and the neighbor was playing fucking DARTS. It got on our nerves, but I got an idea when he had finished.

We found dart sounds effects we would make play randomly with my bud's PC, at louder and louder levels, for some time (we left to a restaurant). When we came back, it was all silent. I think my friend told me what happened with his neighbour and it was so funny, but I do not remember. :lol

dem, I meant the neighbor sure was silent, our sound effects were still playing on loop. I just think he was really pissed because he tought we were playing real darts and purposedly bothering him at the same time. ;)

That's exactly what I threw on. It also has the extended "SCIENCE!" repeated ad nauseam.

Currently you are not topping your last thread. to top your last photo thread, you need to call the police and take a photo of the police making the guy turn it down.
