If you don't have the habit of checking PlanetHalfLife everyday (like I do... :P), you may miss out on this, so I'll post it here...

A simple MOD that is tweakable, to graphically enhance the single player game with a bloom effect.

There is some good news and bad news that goes along with this MOD.

Good News: Nearly no hit to framerate!

Bad News: Loading times are increased...big time.

A couple pics (from HalfLife2.Net) to show the effect...nice and subtle, me likes:

Oh and when I say subtle I'm not referring to the lights, the lights already have a sprite on them, and because of that the effect is increased BIG TIME. What I mean is on the walls and such. If Valve had this effect in there from the get go, the sprites for the lights would have been toned down, thus the effect right on the lights would look far more natural.

I should have added my last paragraph as a reply rather than an edit. Read it in case you missed it :)

for those too lazy to...scroll up:

If they want to make the game more visually realistic (for me at least) they should come up with a "dirty glasses" mod.

Yay, you can now add the most overused graphic effect to a game that honestly didn't need it.

Then why did they use sprites for the lights? :)

I plan to do a similar effect for my MOD, and I won't use any sprites for the Sun or anything like that...I'll just let the engine create the bloom for me.

I love it...looks great in parts where Valve didn't have to fake things:

It just does not look right. Maybe if the light reflected off the windows or something.

And these pictures are why people hate Bloom. HL2 used it properly. These pictures are unnatural and stupid looking.

They both look awesome.

The "bleached" one is a bit off, but I still like it and it would look much better if it were specially tweaked.
