[Bloomberg] Next ‘BioShock’ Game Changes Leaders After Development Turmoil

I think the song in the Judas trailer perfectly sums up what it feels like waiting for these games to fucking come out already:

The fourth game in the 'BioShock' series has been in development for more than a decade

Maybe just let it die?
Noooooo

Keep on keeping on, I just installed all 3 Epic store freebies. Bioshock, B2, Infinite.
I was hoping to play through all 3 again leading up to a new game. :(

Some weird Windows issues with graphics modes and UI that has to be fixed with text editing .ini files. But they look at run great.

People can bitch about his management style all they want, but BioShock games aren't as good without Levine. Hopefully Judas is the successor to this

First person linear game with guns and melee, add some social conciousness BS so make it seem 'deep' for gamers but not really. They still struggling.

As much as I'd like another Bioshock...seems unsustainable if they keep taking this long to make. Dev hell games so rarely turn out good.

well as a Bioshock fan i am glad that 2K decided to act and make changes especially to the leadership, makes you wonder how bad it was or dissappointing for them to do this, i still want a new Bioshock if it's made well like the 3 games before it and i'm looking forward to Judas as well.

Between this and Judas it's bewildering that a greedy publisher like TakeTwo keeps having patience with decade+ to make a game. I would imagine GTA money is the only reason why these studios haven't been shut down.

Always good to have leadership changes mid-development. I'm sure the game will turn out fine.

Bioshock is one VERY few FPS games I enjoyed but series is done…..original creators moved one to new project.

Narrative being a problem I can buy. I think at this point you might as well do the Uncharted thing: plan out your big set pieces then build the levels and story around that. People are coming back for Rapture more than anything else.

maybe just do a hl1 blue shift and show next-gen rapture through the eyes of a big daddy

or maybe youre a photographic journalist that somehow got down there and need to collect evidence/take photos of stuff

First game should've just been a cool one off game. Not everything needs to be a franchise. Instead we got 2 mid sequels and now whatever is happening here.

Second game was a cool offshoot, could have been an MGR sort of deal if devs at the time embraced the ludicrous nature of it. Infinite was straight ass instead and shouldn't have happened though, but I think the second game was defensible.

I have no idea how one game can be in development for more than a decade, alone. That is absolutely absurd. 2-5 years is pretty standard at this point, depending on the studio, budget, and vision of course. But double that and this kind of turmoil? Not sounding good at all.

The game's narrative was identified as an area that was particularly in need of improvement and will be revamped in the coming months, the people said.
They rejeted the narrative. What could it be? Are they finally reading the room?

Why do these games take so long to come out? Be it Bioshock or Judas, shit's taking forever, it's ridiculous. It's not like they're massive open worlds with a ton of complexities in them. Come on now.

Beside the cost bloat, one big issue is that the old game devs in the last 20 years have aged out and retired. And the new generation don't really know how to make games. And some of the new devs don't even PLAY games, which is practically a cardinal sin. Diversity hires may or may not have something to do with the latter.

Nintendo avoided this issue by running a tight ship and train their devs using the old guard. But modern Western studios just burn out the old devs and replace them with inexperienced people who barely know what a good game looks like.

Judas is supposed to be rogueli*e so they can't keep that garbage.

In regards to BioShock, it has gotten progressively worse with each iteration.

This is really sad news, the bioshock games were something special .

I mean you can joke about the mismanagement but I really don't get why alot of people have started trying to revise history and claim if the bioshock games were nothing special.

The games were some of the highest rated games of the generation with an atmosphere, freedom in gcameplay design, lore and narrative that was something else. I still remember every moment from the first game vividly from the beginning with the plane crash, to facing the first big daddy, piecing the lore together, experiencing rapture which was simply oozing with atmosphere, seeing the sad tragedy of its fall and the sad state of its survivors.

I mean not many games had such an impact and certainly not many from the ones released these days. "A man chooses, a slave obeys!" People who actually played the game know how impactful that line was.

I would legit pay 100 dollars if it meant the developers could deliver a passionate bioshock project where they give it their all.

Covid...ummm...no wait that was too long ago now...uhhh The war in Ukraine!....ummm wait no....the new taxes...

I'm sure they'll find the right excuse to feed the people that the industry itself will lap up to feed their own bullshit because It can never be the poor management, diversity hires and lazy devs! That would just make too much sense and we don't want that!

The entire Bioshock trilogy was created in less time than this 😂
