Blue Beetle | Official Trailer

The thing about this is that while it is just a silly joke, it really is a dumb thing to put in your trailer, when you're trying to get people in to see your movie. Batman is - whether they like it or not - easily the most popular DC character, and in our febrile, social media obsessed world, it's really not a great idea to call him a fascist, if you want positive feedback from the fanbase, that will get you an audience for the film's release.

Haven’t even watched the trailer (don’t care enough to) but anything that triggers the rage baiters is hilarious.

Agreed... but it's a dumb business decision. WBD aren't exactly in great financial shape at the moment, so riling up an entire cross section of your audience - the main audience for your movie - isn't particularly wise. I would definitely have cut that line from the trailer, but kept it in the movie. As it stands, there will be yet another social media outcry, and it'll damage the film's box office.

I don’t think a Blue Beetle movie ever had box office prospects.

It certainly doesn't when they sling in a throwaway insult about their most successful character - that they must've known would piss some people off. Just idiotic on a business front.

But, I guess they just don't care enough with this movie, which is a shame.

People getting worked up over a civilian calling Batman a fascist is making me like the trailer more. Read some damn comics and you'll realize that civilians having a low opinion of Batman isn't a new concept or upsetting in the slightest.

Seriously, and considering presumably this film will be set in the new DCU, the Justice League might not have formed yet in continuity so Batman might still only have a rep to the rest of the world as “that crazy guy from Gotham” and nothing else.

I mean, checking the YouTube comments for the trailer, can’t really find anyone commenting on it much. If the YouTube comments section of all things is chill about it, this will likely be a non-issue.

Batman's been called worse MANY TIMES in his own comics by ordinary citizen characters. AND fascist was one of those words.

That suit looks like Spidermans in avengers. And the ship looks like the owl guys ride from the watchman.

This could be totally fine but I have no interest. Like the actor from cobra Kai. I'll stream this in two years probably

Funny enough, in the comics, Jaime Reyes became Blue Beetle in April 2006 while Peter Parker first got his Iron Spider suit in March 2006. But Jaime was introduced in February and I’m pretty sure they would have had his suit figured out before anyone could have seen Iron Spider so this is a hilarious coincidence.

They've completely changed the story and tone. I guess they're using the character to hunt for a different audience than the comic readers. I mean, I get - the original comic runs were a long time ago and not exactly best sellers. But this just looks like the kind of pablum for young children small studios crank out.

Eh? Where did he say that? Because the official line is that the DCU doesn't kick off until Superman Legacy.

He flat out says the movie is in the DCU.

Well, his phrasing of the “true beginning” of the DCU for Superman Legacy I think he means the first major new film for the DCU. Blue Beetle was likely repurposed to fit in the new continuity, MAYBE the same for Aquaman 2 (James does not specify if it will be DCU or set prior to Flash), then Creature Commandos is a cartoon series while Waller is a TV series, so Superman Legacy is the first DCU film we’re hearing about in terms of James Gunn’s slate that he announced (obviously Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 were films we knew about long before James came on board).

:messenger_tears_of_joy: Not confusing at all. So, all the films around Blue Beetle are DCEU, but it's not, but the DCU doesn't really begin until Superman?

He's very good at hedging his bets!

What's the betting Blue Beetle suddenly isn't DCU the second it fails at the box office? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

No, I said Superman Legacy is the first DCU film that was ANNOUNCED in the video. Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 were already known long before that video. And Creature Commandos and Waller are shows, not movies.

I forget the exact story of how this played out, and too lazy to dig thru wikipedia so I will leave it up to others. Nite Owl (owl guy from the Watchmen) and Blue Beetle characters have a direct relationship, I think BB was originally created in 1939, many many years later DC bought the character along with a bunch of others, and some of these were sorta reformatted into the Watchmen characters w/ different names. But other versions of those characters still existed in the "proper" DC Universe with their original names as well, and had some common ancestry. It's interesting, ultimately business-y stuff. Some info here: https://www.mtv.com/news/3ixvi7/bef...e-characters-that-inspired-nite-owl-rorschach

Looks like shit. Deal with it.

The suit is comics accurate... It predates the MCU Spidey suit.

Blue Beetle is that one character who everyone underestimates but then has great writing behind him when shown, like in the comics and cartoon shows listed in the thread.

I’m hoping this movie manages to continue that trend and I’d like for this to also be self aware enough to have some fun. I don’t need every new hero on the big screen to be the next coming of Avengers Infinity War or Spider-Man No Way Home. The fact that he decided to create a final fantasy-esque buster sword tells me this could just be a fun movie and I’m into that.

Give me a fun 7/10 or 8/10 hero movie where you can feel the heart and passion behind it(like Marvel phase 1 movies) and I’ll be satisfied.

the power ranger suit and green lantern weapon making abilities kinda piquing my interest and it looks pretty action packed I'll wait for the next trailer i don't watch a lot of superhero movies tbh so I'm not fatigued by this stuff still a lot of stuff I need to catch up on

The "Batman is a fascist" comment feels so random and unnecessary the movie lost pretty much any goodwill it barely had to begin with.

What a weird way to end a trailer.

Is this direct to streaming?

Theaters only.
Firstly, what has that got to do with anything I said?

Although, I'm not surprised that you are incapable of accepting a different opinion.

Your comment suggested that you likely don't know the character or mantle... The Blue Beetle mantle goes back to the 1930s in Charleston comics ... There's been 3 Blue Beetles...

And I can accept a different opinion... It's just weird when people who don't like something just HAVE to tell everyone they don't like something. It makes no sense. Especially when no one asked your opinion.

Know what I usually do when I don't like something? I don't comment on it with how much I don't like it. Why waste your time and energy? It's one thing to say you didn't like the trailer... But you're "sick and tired of all these shitty superhero movies"... That's a whole different thing. But you know what? Who am I to suggest anything to a complete stranger?

But anyway... Have at it, hoss.

It‘s the same advice we gave that guy who was SHOCKED that when he went on the Hogwarts Legacy subreddit and criticized the game and the people there weren’t too receptive to it. Not saying a few of them might not have overreacted, but regardless people correctly pointed out it’s silly for someone who didn’t like the game to go to the subreddit of all things to say that.

I don’t make it a point to go into every thread on certain sporting events and whine about when humanity will move on from watching sports just because I’m not interested in watching them. No, people enjoy them, let them have their fun. Likewise, superhero movies and comics have their fans, yes even “unknown” characters like Blue Beetle (ignoring his decades of existence in comics and countless animated and live action show appearances…). One would think people would be capable of enough empathy to go, “well, I’m not into it, but hey, cool for those who are.”

But instead, a bunch of them are Marge Simpson:

It doesn't look like a theatrical movie. And it reminds me too much of Power Rangers. No idea who the target audience is? Toddlers?

Badass buster sword
Quick silly question

So does he know martial arts already, or does this alien suit from another planet grant him earth martial arts powers?

It'll probably be answered in the movie, but it is a bit weird. I think at least Power Rangers and even Guyver hosts knew martial arts from before no?

I only read the introduction Blue Beetle comic book and don't remember much from it. I think he had a range of friends and I think the suit caused him pain. I don't see much friends from the trailer(focused more on family and getting a Ms Marvel vibes) and the pain doesn't seem to be a thing here.

Seems like your typical 'I'm a teen/young adult and I've got a suit that gives me powers, and I must protect my family from evil CEO/aliens etc'.

Well it can't be worse than Max Steel, but maybe it'll be better than Ms Marvel.
