Boktai's 10th Year Anniversary !

Who else bought this game out of curiosity because of the solar sensor?

Turned out to be pretty good.

P.S. That new Transistor game's artstyle reminded me a lot of Boktai.

Bought these games. Used a black light during the night to store solar energy for the game. Would love to see the series make a comeback.

Oh god 10 years.

I was so excited about this when it came out, hyped it to all of my friends, which none of them bought it (assholes). I used the blacklight at times but tried to play in the sun when possible. Had some awesome sprite work from what I remember.

I wish, although I'm not quite sure how it would work. It's crazy to me that GBA games aren't on the eShop, I would buy so many of them.

I think that Ninty said that they were giving GBA support for the Wii U. Which makes no sense :S. Why not give 3DS Game Boy advance support, and the Wii U GameCube support?

Back on topic, I always loved the crossovers with the Mega Man Battle Network series. The Django chip was so OP.

GunDelSol EX, used outdoors was great. 2X3 range too.

I never played a Boktai game before. Maybe I will sometime after reading the "Konami sucks" thread.

TC I immediately like you for making this thread.

Wonder how today's gaming crowd would react to the sun sensor now

Considering how portables' screens look like in sunlight now, probably horrible.

Is that game based on the same universe, or just uses similar concepts?

It's pretty much Boktai 4, but it's set in the future/a bad future (I never understood this tbh, is it meant to be the timeline in which Django died and Ratatosk won or just the future post Shinbok?) with characters also named Django and Sabata in Japan.

I always fantasized how cool a console installment of this series would be. I still say the Wii would've been the perfect platform, the Wii's IR bar sensor has the potential to be used to detect high levels of UV light, just imagine imagine running towards a window while finishing off a boss yelling "TIYOOO!". Not to mention how nice it would be to see such a stylized Kojima game on the big screen. I always thought it followed in the footsteps of Ghost Babel, a visual style and atmosphere I fear the MGS series will never touch again.

I see what you mean, but not nearly as much as Radio The Universe does for me.

I used to use the Gamecube Gameboy adapter and leave the unit outside to soak up the sun while I played comfortably inside. Fuck you Hideo, I ain't playing outside..

I loved the first game, the visual design felt so fresh in comparison to other games. It's a bummer KojiPro does not experiment like that these days.

I bought Boktai 2 so I could transfer stuff over to Battle Network 5. PileDriver is pretty awesome in that game.

Don't remember it too well and I didn't enjoy the solar gimmick (makes the screen hard to see), but I really like the settling. Quite dark despite the cute look. And dragging the bosses' coffins makes you feel like a badass.

Still haven't finished it since I don't use portables under the sun!
Fun gimmick though.
They could do a smartphone version with all that light sensor now in the phones heh?

Konami dat mobile pennies

I played through 1 and 2 the proper way without any black lights and it was epic as fuck. The first game had such a great sense of solitude, it reminded me of metroid. The second game expanded on everything perfectly, more equipment, transformations, the town, upgrading shit, all around a more dense experience in all the right ways. Wish the 3rd game had come out here, I wonder what it was like...

Also I didn't realize people liked the DS game, it's going for 50 dollars on Amazon...

Never played this but I loved Lunar Knights and always wished I'd heard of this to play it :(

10 years later and Britain finally has the weather to play it.

Well actually 10 years ago Britain had the perfect weather for this game. The problem is this game wasn't released there until the next May, preceding a super shitty summer.

I adored the Boktai games. I never did try the DS sequel (spiritual successor?) though. May need to look it up. Even without the solar sensor, the gameplay was just really fun.

I especially enjoyed crafting in the second game. It was really addicting.

I absolutely adored this series. I loved the art and especially the sprite work. such a cool game...had such a great sense of atmosphere surprisingly for a GBA game.
Funnily enough, I'm in the UK and a good old friend of mine gave me a copy of the game which he got from the US. I was super stoked....much to my dismay...there was ONLY US time zones within the game. So it was virtually impossible to play ha.
And I also managed to get Boktai 2 some years later but never got around to playing it.
Lunar Knights however I played quite a bit and never did complete it...I really should get around to finishing it sometime soon.

But most importantly...It had one of the coolest trailers that explained how to play the game.

I'd love for the series to make a return somehow!

I can't believe this game came out 10 years ago.....Time sure does fly

I bought the second one and never got very far because the amount of sun I could get to hit the sensor always sucked. Still have the box and everything in mint condition.
