Bolo, does anyone remember this LAN/Internet Party game on the Mac

As I sit here in my psychology class... I just remembered about a game called Bolo that was on the old Macs, back in 5th to 7th grade. It was one of the first lan party game that we played at Middle School, before our school went to all Window based computers....

To all of us, it was like the Doom for the Mac, but with a bit more strategy like Chess as we would play it like RTS, but everthing was real time with parties that we were able to make. On the last day of school before summer vacation, all of us would go to the computer labs and we had 20 clans in the whole school going against each other going for the tournament of champions for the three years we had Macs, before getting Windows..

I was wondering it would so cool to have something like that right now, with updated graphics....

I knew a guy who would talk about bolo all the time, never had the chance to play it though.

I'm pretty sure this was at least one of, if not first network multiplayer game (as in, more than two). I think this game was 8 players at a time max.

I played this game when I young. It's gameplay is really spot on. You can destroy computer pillboxes (turrety type things) and then capture them and they work for you. You can build them where ever you want. You can build walls and roads too. You can make big bases for other people to try to destroy. There is a lot of really cool strategy in this game.

Bolo also had a map editor for it, which really made the game sweet. One map my friends and I played on a lot was made nearly completely of shallow water. In Bolo, one hit and your boat is destroyed and then you have to wade through shallow water while your supplies slowly drain. So it developed interesting strategies. People going in for quick runs against other people, people trying to make island atolls.. It's a great game.

I was about to chime in about Midi Maze on the Amiga, but that was 1987, Bolo was 1982 (!)

I never got to play Bolo with more than 2 players... that was pretty cool though... anyone know if there is a version that works with OS X?

Yeah, i remember it, I was way too young to play properly, I have vague memories of hating "pill boxes" though, those round things that could shoot in any direction.

Yes, I used to play this in college, sweet game. Does it still run in classic? I should dig it out again. I probably have it on a floppy somewhere. :lol

I sure do, really cool multiplayer tank game. However, I only played a little, since at the time I was slavishly devoted to playing and modding Netrek and Xtank. :P
