Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Release Trailer

Here's some extended gameplay.

I'll probably just take the leap to support them. Seems like a cross between THPS and JSRF. Combos that don't fail with a decent emphasis on exploration.

You can call it Jet Set Radio Rush. Awesome performance on Steam Deck: Ultra settings, native resolution, 60 fps, over 4 hours of battery life.

Just a heads up, apparently the Switch version has a 60 fps mode called Beast mode or something. Game looks incredibly faithful to JSR style and gameplay.

Bruh, the ost is so sick.
2Mello posted that there are tracks from him in the game too.

sweet! I'll be picking this one up soon

Hope it sells well enough to warrant a sequel, while the aesthetics are down it's a bit annoying how identical it looks to JSRF when JSRF was a massive departure from JSR in color palette

broke down after watching a couple of reviews and got the game using some of my eshop credits for about $25, and...Oh. my. goodness. If you are/were a fan of JSR or JSRF GET THIS GAME!

It oozes style and has the substance to back it up. It just feels fun to play and move the character around, though it may take a bit to get accustomed to the controls/trick system/combat etc. Lots to see, unlock, learn and do.

The soundtrack is S-tier level of hip-hop, funk/soul, dance and electro. Team Reptile should be proud to show off their achievement by sending as many review codes out as possible. This game was practically made to be played with headphones on a Switch OLED!

Hopefully SEGA sees this game and gives Team Reptile a call for a possible future collaboration...

I wonder if there's any chance this would hit Game Pass.

It's a spiritual successor, and as far as spiritual successors go one of the best I've ever seen/played.
No cutscenes, no voice acting is a bit much for the asking price.

The repetitive music can also get grating.

Yes the gameplay is awesome but some things are missing imo.

Its JSR3 in everything but name. The impressions pulled me in, will buy day one once its out on PS5. I still would like to see Future remastered too, but perhaps if this game catches on.

Except there are cutscenes. There's a cutscene in the first 10 minutes. It's not a cutscene heavy game but they are there. And there's minimal voice acting but I honestly think it was done more for aesthetics and call back to older arcade-y games.

Also you can unlock music for your phone to play anytime you want. It's not a perfect game and considering it was done by an indie team, it's more than impressive.

It's quite more expensive than I was expecting, I was thinking it would be more around 25 - 30€ max.

Being a fan of Tony Hawk / SSX, and with some of the trailers and mention of inspiration from also thps series, I was hoping for a focus on scoring / combos, but apparently that's really not the case.
Some friends playing the game told me I would be disappointed if I get it while expecting scoring and crazy combos :messenger_crying: Someone told me it's more of a platformer that happens to have skating, rather than a skating game.

I did play Jet Set Radio and I thought it was okay, but the gameplay always felt very limited and stiff compared to THPS to me.

I'll probably wait for a sale to get it because at this price it seems like a risky bet for me, especially if it's very short.

Which cutscene in the beginning?

Im talking about something akin to this

Something that explains the world, the gangs and the stakes.

I thought the intro was very mediocre and didnt pull me into the game at all. No npc's in the hideout area, makes it seem.. empty.

I like the game and enjoyed it more when I got to the bigger areas but i missed something like this. Shit id do voice acting for free as a fan

Im not saying its not impressive in some areas, like gameplay. But imo its lacking in some presentation. The no talking characters are weird (well they say yo and hi). I miss a professor K type character.

Also considering the asking price. If it was 25€ Id be able to look past stuff like this.

There are sections of the game where doing tricks and scoring high combos, a-la Tony Hawk style, are very important for progression. It's not a score based game like Tony Hawk but it's definitely there and can be a very fun and engaging mechanic of the game.

This is a very easy buy @ $20-$30. If you're a huge fan of fun, arcade-y games (of the Dreamcast days) with stellar soundtracks or a huge fan of JSR then it's also just as worthy @ $40.

Fair enough, that's understandable. In that case definitely give it a look when it hits a sale or if you have eshop credit (if buying on Switch). There's a lot more to see and do than what some of the current videos are showing and it's really a game that just feels fun to play around in the world, grinding on everything, tagging and running from the cops while listening to some sick tunes. 👍

it is a JSRF with updated gameplay, and more combos:
Manuals, air dash, grind corner boosting and an improved scoring system.

You can't bail tricks and you need to do some platforming and graffiti, but I still recommend it to you.

Bought it and played the first 30 minutes or so. Yeah I think they nailed the feel but with a more objective-based level design similar to maybe THPS underground? Camera and momentum are on point. Chaining combos works well and the tagging feels like a nice combo of both Jet Set games. Seems well worth $40.

I think some people were expecting too much. For it to be a successor to JSR/JSF, and a budget title, I think they nailed everything VERY well. I went in with no expectations and love for the JS series and I'm definitely happy. The OST is tight, the look and feel is very much JS, as is the gameplay. Well worth the price if you were a big fan of the series, it's the closest thing we'll probably ever get to another one.

Jet Set Radio and Future have a great aesthetic, but the gameplay did not age well and I've found it difficult to enjoy in the modern era.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk fixed all of that and more. The gameplay is fresh and expanded in every direction, the story is interesting, the music is banging, and the colors literally pop out of the screen on a Switch OLED.

What a gem.

This is pretty great. It's definitely much more based on JSRF, which was the lesser of the two JSR games by far, but it notably does a lot of things better than that game.

The controls are a lot tighter and the system is a lot more flexible, which means keeping your chain going is easy. But the timed challenges still make the trick combo system interesting. Sometimes the controls feel a little too expanded and it can be a lot to keep track of, but mostly it feels like a net improvement.

The soundtrack is great but not JSR great. But it's hardly a complaint.

My biggest issue is the story. Like yes there is a story now, but I don't care about it and it takes up too much time. Combat is also not great but that was never a focus.

Overall it's a million times better than Hover.

Buttery smooth, artistic funk gameplay that sticks the landing of every on and off beat.

20/10 - JSR/JSRF were good, this is better.
