Boxing Day purchases?

i think it was future shop or superstore that had soul caliber 2, four swords and super mario sunshine for $49. not each, for all 3.

I got Saving Private Ryan for 11 bucks or so at HMV

And I got a Philly Eagles hat 20% off 35 bucks at Sport Check

Both were things I've been wanting to buy for a while

The crazy canadians made a holiday for the day after christmas as an excuse to get people who are returning things to spend more money.

The holiday originates in England, where they would box up all their Christmas decorations and put them away for another year on the 26th. Hence the name Boxing Day. :p

Actually:

The Boxing Day tradition began in Britain possibly as early as in the Middle Ages; with regards to its origin, there are two main schools of thought. Some historians maintain that it began as a holiday tradition where house servants, who always had to work on Christmas days, were rewarded the day after. Their employers would put gifts such as food, clothing, or money in “Christmas boxes,” which the servants would then take with them as they departed for family visits. Others say that Boxing Day is so named because churches collected money for the poor in wooden boxes and usually opened them to hand out alms on the day after Christmas. Today, Boxing Day is celebrated in most of the other English-speaking countries that include Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the United States being a notable exception.

Black Friday? When's that?

Very few stores do refunds or anything on Boxing Day. Too much business.

For Americans, it's the day after Thanksgiving (their Thanksgiving, in November). Same deal - sales, doorcrashers, what have you.

And Future Shop sucked for game sales, don't bother. Although I got a nice speaker set and a digicam there.

Wow, I thought Boxing Day was a universal thing, not just Canadian and British.

Anyways, I picked up 4 (yes, 4) copies of Rez for PS2 for $9.91 CND each from TRU (I work there, so I grabbed them as soon as I saw them). I plan on making a huge profit on eBay. :)

They basically get rid of all their crap that didn't sell on christmas but they mark it down 50% or whatever. I guess they call it boxing day because they sell everything that's still "boxed".

And for you futureshopers out there, check out their site, it's the same deals as in the store - lineup and shipping is free. I got a Dlink wireless router for $30.

No wonder I can never find a copy :P

At anyrate, Wal-Mart had some decent deals on games. 47.99 for MGS3, Paper Mario and Metroid Prime 2. 45 for Tales of Symphonia.

"Boxing Day originated in England in the middle of the 19th century under Queen Victoria; boxes were filled with gifts and money for servants and tradespeople."

We have something similar in Sweden too. Or to be more precise, it's basically stores selling out their stock items etc after the x-mas rush (originally, at least, it was) during the days between x-mas and new years eve. It's called (a quick and dirty translation) "sales during days in-between".

If I knew there was a chance to snap up Rez, I might have made an effort to get to Toys R Us. Is it a Boxing Day or a "Boxing Week" sale?

As for me, I actually ended up with a fairly big number of gaming purchases. I didn't get anything game-related I asked for for Christmas...

Zellers:
$10 each:
Soul Calibur 2 (GC)
NFS: Underground (PS2)
SSX 3 (PS2)
NBA Street 2

...they're all games I'd seen for $20-25 as greatest hits, but at $10, it's a pretty good deal for some pretty well-respected games.

EB:
$20: Vice City (not much of a deal, but alas -- I asked for it for Christmas, and when I'm done with it, I'm going to swap for San Andreas with my brother)
$0.99: Used Brute Force.

All told, $60.94 for six games.

Wal Mart-
Fable and FF Dawn of souls for 80 bucks

EB-
Half Life 2 and an Xbox controller for 85 (I had a gift card for 50 bucks)

So far you could say I'm content with this stuff, I may go out tommorow though to pick up some dvds and west ed.

I bought some old games: (Toys R us)
Fatal Frame Xbox - 9.00
Duel hearts 9.00
Armored Core: Another age 9.00
Armored Core : Silent line 9.00

and some newer ones
Ghost in the shell 29.99 EB
Burginjai 19.99

I am hoping Myer (Australia) has the 50% off all gamecube games that they have had for the last few years.

Anyone over east can confirm this??

I had to work at bestbuy today, worse 8 1/2 hours of my life. Bah, you guys are the fucking devil. BTW, did anyone go to the the Brampton Best Buy by any chance? That's the one I work at...

Just Feel the Magic at Target for 22 bucks. I was tempted to pick up Burnout 3 but I've got a few Best Buy gift cards that will probaby go that way in the coming days.

Get it, the game rocks hard.

Brampton is out of my reach, I'm going to the Heartland location.

Picking up an mp3 player :)

Edit: I wouldn't mind a part-time job there also, gotta support myself during school.

As far as I've seen so far, Myer are only doing 15% off games, which isn't really anything to get excited about.

he's right DTM. I went and had a look and nothing good - checked out EB too. Forgot to head on up @ DJ but they never had good games anyhow.

Kmart + Target also have lacklustre game sales - they do have good stuff but no games I want.

Um... is Transformer any good guys?

That's what i hear, right now i'm torn between this and Ace Combat V. Anyone have input on that decision? I loved the first 2 burnouts and feel pretty much the same about the AC games, mainly AC 4.

I am going to check out dicksmith today, last week they had burnout 3 for $42 (less then half price), Halo 2 $69, Soul Cailber 2 $28.

They had a few GBA/GBC games going cheap including the oracle games, they update there prices every week!
