Brand new Sailor Moon anime series due July 2014 (Worldwide release planned)

At the Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary event today, it was announced that a brand new Sailor Moon anime is in production. There were no details other than it is planned for release in Summer 2013. More news about the anime will be shared on the Sailor Moon Channel website. The idol group Momoiro Clover Z will be performing the theme song for the anime.

- This is a new Sailor Moon anime series. It is not a one-off movie special.

- They do not want to disappoint long time fans who have grown up with the franchise and are now adults, because of this the new series will have to feel like an improvement (power up!) over the previous works.

- They have not finalized broadcast plans for the series yet, but they intend on releasing the series worldwide simultaneously.

Kotono Mitsuishi (Usagi) confirms on her blog that she will be reprising her role in the new Sailor Moon series. She also adds that the enemy this time is not the Dark Kingdom.

Oh man, I feel bad for being happy about this news. But ok, its Sailor Moon after all. Will watch
 
No shame in admitting I used to watch it on a daily basis, mainly because it was on right after school and dragonball was on right after that.
 
It could be really interesting. I think that Sailor Moon was a pretty cool show, basically having an anime that girls could get into and enjoy. With that said, it could have been a lot better. Hopefully they manage to get some better dubs though. I also watched it on Toonami like everyone else, waiting to see the other stuff of course.

You can't beat that intro though
 
Loved it back then, mainly cause I was in love with Bunny (before y'all call me creepy she was the same age as me back then) and was amazed by some storylines
the arc when they all die
, so I'll watch for nostalgic reasons.

First I'd like to buy the old series on dvd or blu-ray.

I did a rewatch last year but was a bit disappointed. It's still funny but not as interesting or clever as I remembered it.

That's been the motto for American video games and movies for the past several years as well now. I don't mind remakes, sequels, or reboots, but it seems like it's just a bit too many these days. It's not like there's a dearth of originality out there though, the movie and games industry just needs to use more of it.
 
Is it like Dragon Ball Kai (which can be considered new) or something really new like that Saint Seiya horrible anime?

If it's new I'm already prepared to cringe when we see the art and the modern annoying cuteness.

Moon-Chase is also saying Toei will be behind the series again, but I dunno where they're getting that from.

Kai was a failure so I doubt it'll be recut Sailor Moon. It'll either be a remake with new designs or a new series entirely.
 
Presumably this means that they're giving the Precure franchise a rest and sending the Precure team to do an all-new version of Sailor Moon instead.

I watched the English dub of this from time to time when I was a kid way back when it aired in the 90s. I'll check this out, though I'm not really into the magical girl genre.

I remember back in middle school I would always wonder if guys could watch sailor moon or not. I think I decided that they couldn't, but I did anyway. Probably check this out, haven't seen a new anime since panty and stocking. If sailor venus isn't your favorite, you're beyond help. No one can help you.

Venus was a stuck up blonde bitch at times. Sailor Mercury is where it's at, son. With those brains and that short blue hair.
