Considering both Paramount and 20th Century Fox specifically mention in press releases standard Blu-ray in PS3 as one of the main reasons they support BRD, I would think that this rumor is unlikely....

No it doesn't, considering PS3 uses it's Cell and RSX to output it's Blu-ray video in the first place. The same Cell and RSX that processes all the fancy graphics and do-dads.
