The significance of it. Gus looked really hard for it.

What is your theory? I simply understood it in the contrast of how Gale used it (opening up the lab stuff which he's excited to play with) and Gus did (as a malicious way to murder someone).

The neon color was quite interesting.

I haven't thought about another significance, so if you got something you should share. :D

Almost a little weird how queasy Walt is, considering he blew a guy's brains out like 2 days ago. But I get it, as in he's still reeling on the edge of being killed himself.

Adrenaline. Plus Gus was making sure Walt saw everything as it happened right in his face.

Just watched the scene again (oh NOW you want to work, AMC HD? THANKS.) and when Gus flicks open the box cutter, Walt gets scared and Victor smiles. Pretty clear to me where there heads were at.

Victor gets confident by that time, I agree with you. I wonder if Walt's rambling gave him confidence.

As i mentioned as I was watching it, I felt that Victor was worried and unsure until about that time, but was confident when he argued with Walt.

Everything about that scene was perfect.

None. I think that sums it up pretty well, just that he did make a point of using it.

It really really was. One of those TV moments where you step back and know you're watching something you'll always remember.

In the Denny's scene you can tell how much both have changed. Jesse is acting normal even though he is not. While Walter on the other side is just sitting worrying what will happen next. The tag on the shirts mean a lot but it is a little thing. Walt still has a tag on. Last season Jesse still had some innocent in him now it is all gone.

The next week is going to be brutal.

I think even as a killer you could probably feel the difference between shooting someone and walking away and slitting their throats and holding their neck open until they bled out.

Jeebus, what an opening. Pins and needles.

Also, Gus is jacked. I wonder if Giancarlo Esposito has always been that muscular, or if Vince Gilligan told him to bulk up during the hiatus. I never would have guessed that he'd be that buff.

I love Bryan Cranston's acting and the writing when Walt's in a situation where he might die. Feels desperate and realistic. He just spills words out.

Nobody disagrees that Victor was confident at that point. :p Victor thinks Walt is fucked then because Victor believes he proved to do the job well enough.

With the info we're given, Victor's hurry to start cooking can be read whichever way: that he was worried for his own skin and wanted to prove himself after fucking up with Gale (twice over), that he wanted to prove Walt was useless simply because he wanted Walt and Jesse out of the picture, or both.

I can't imagine that Gus' matter-of-factness didn't terrify Walt even more. Guy went about killing Victor like he was trying on a new pair of pants. And it was with a box cutter, which just feels more raw.

Do you guys wanna go to Dennys and make a shipment with fedex?

Loved the episode, the whole gus segment was just insane and awesome. Totally loved it, especially where they use hydroflouric acid to melt someone, and actually use a container to do so, so great

I can see this being an important part of this season. Jesse is becoming detacted from his actions, maybe it's his way of coping with what he did, and he'll probably start to go off the deep end.

this gon be good

Nah, he's been that buff. They talked about it on the S3 commentary.

Edit: He's in The Wire?
Gale is in season 5 of the Wire also Flight on the Concords.

Not Gus sorry. Got confused.

I think the size tag still being on Walt's shirt points to the difference in composure between Walt and Jesse (who seemed to pull the tag off).

Walt is so infuriating when he tries to use scientific jargon to make people feel stupid.

I wanted to punch him in the fucking face.

Just got back from the screening at the Alamo Drafthouse. Fun event, cool to see it on the big screen. They didn't show the scenes for next week though.. doh!

I actually thought that once Victor admitted he was seen that Mike would off him at that moment so the fact that Gus did it wasn't very surprising but damn that was brutal. Hard to imagine that was on basic cable. The ensuing acid scene.. yuck. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Also, the bed pan scene was absolutely painful. :(

Great episode...I'm still not sure why Gus killed the dude though? Is it because he is a mediocre cook, or is he just trying to mind fuck Walt and Jessie?
I thought it was because he was a loose end having been seen at the crime scene; could have possible led back to Gus.

I'm a little confused on why Gus killed Victor. At first I thought it was because he was seen at Gale's house but Gus didn't now about that.

Was it just Gus displaying his power about how even though Victor could cook he didn't care?

Victor was seen at the crime, failed at his job protecting Gale, and talked way to much this episode.

I think it has to do with the fact that he was put in charge of keeping an eye (protecting) on Gale but ended up failing miserably.

Hell of an episode. I'm glad they had the balls to kill Gale off, as I had heard he might not necessarily be dead. Also that execution scene was brutal, damn.

Gus did know about that. Mike called him up with all the details and Mike was insistent on finding out from Victor if he had been seen at the crime scene.

I think it was a culmination of everything.

Victor failed to prevent gale getting killed, he got seen at the scene, he didn't respect the chemistry "it's just a cook", he can't kill walt, he can't kill jesse, he got made an example of.

It was also to show them how dispensible his employees are, as in "gabe? so fucking what?". Also Walt telling him "Gale's blood is on your hands", he slices Victor for no obvious/apparent reason and throws him at walt, as if saying "Victor's blood is on your hands".

It's so layered for me...I'm in awe of this episode.

It was for a number of reasons: 1) Victor failing to protect Gale, 2) Victor being seen at Gale's, 3) Victor at that point being useless to Gus, 4) intimidation. Gus was actually probably a little worried, on some level. He probably didn't expect Walt had in it him to mastermind something like Gale's death in order to save himself, so he wasn't sure if Walt was also prepared to go after him. Killing Victor in such a brutal fashion as Gus did also served simply as a warning not to fuck with him.

holy fuck what an episode. and gus is fucking yoked!

i wonder if jesse is going to go off his rocker now.... like he has been desensitized to it all and now he just dont give a fuck

I'll bet a touch better than they have been but nowhere near as good as they should be given the quality of the show / size of this thread.

So how do you think the ratings were?
I think there'll be an improvement. I feel like the show has caught on a lot over the past year. I actually know a few people who watch it now — whereas after S2 / before S3, most people I talked to didn't even know what the show was.
